Hmmmm... this is very confusing; the white screen would suggest that something is stalling the pages from loading; when I have seen this in the past, it was actually an external website that was causing the delay (facebook, twitter, googleads etc).

I am wondering if it is certain browsers that are showing the problem more readily, or if it is something to do with connection speeds?

Those of you that are seeing the problem, the next time you have the hang or white screen, take a look at the bottom left corner of your browser window and see what it says there. I would expect that it says something like "Waiting for www.facebook.com....." or "Connecting to googleanalytics.com...."

I am not promising any cure here, but maybe if we are able to identify a root cause it might help with the solution.

fat controller...I just got a white screen and, at the bottom left, was this website, i.e. no other name.

I am in firefox, windows 7 and with plusnet (if that helps at all).

Dips - I am on a laptop and experience the white screen quite often.

Fat controller was asking about what is there on the bottom left of the white screen. It just gives this site.

Rosebay i wasn't referring to that or your problem. I also cant help in anyway as i don't deal with windows and haven't since i was 15.

I Just noticed that Anthony rogers described the exact screen i see on my ipad and it is different to my imac so thought that might be the reason for the appearance difference rather than the lagging. Altho if the forum does lag it only ever does on the ipad

I'm with BT using W7. No lag or different background. No background visible when on GC (or any other site) as I've set the site to fill my screen.

Whilst refreshing the screen I get the green GC background with the tools and pots. This lasts for about 3 seconds whilst it refreshes. I've just checked my download speed, on two different sites, one said .84Mb and the other said 2.3Mb :noidea:. My ISP has told me that the fastest download time I can get on my service is 2.1Mb!

There's no appreciable difference between downloading GC and other sites but the more tabs I have open the longer it seems to take.

          No recent slow down.

I've got no issues at two different locations, i.e. two different ISPs: office using a Win7 laptop with Chrome, home Win8 desktop with Chrome. I also just checked on my smartphone, it is OK on there too.

            Would suggest it's people's individual configurations/ISPs.

Those using mobile devices, are you using your own WiFi or data connection? My phone is only 3g but that is OK.

It does sound as though it is some sort of issue that is related to speed of connection or hardware receiving the data, and the only thing I can think of is that the data is being sent from the server faster than the ISP can send it on, and packets are being lost; the receiving PC then sits and waits for the missing packets which never arrive, hence the white screen or incomplete images.

@rosebay - it might be worth trying a test on www.pingtest.net which might give an indication of packet loss and noise within the signal

fat controller - I tried to quote your post above in reply but got this:-

Sorry, you were not able to save since the content contained a link

For this Forum, before you can create content with links, you must first meet the minimum requirements

                Minimum Requirements
The number of posts you have created must exceed: 2 (Yours: 0)
The number of Likes you've received must exceed: 1 (Yours: 0)
The Like:Post Ratio must exceed: 0% (Yours: 0%)
The number of days you have been registered must exceed: 1 (Yours: 16668)

and it logged me out (which it keeps doing, despite me ticking always stay logged in box).

I am reluctant to try that pingtest since I see that it requires Java (which I won't go anywhere near - it has a notoriously glitchy reputation).

I had to edit this post and it took forever...just wouldn't make the connection for ages.

One insight I had just now is that, before the lagging and going to white screen, for weeks now - whenever I clicked on anything there was a SLIGHT lag and a sign came up at the top saying Mozilla Firefox is not responding (the browser I am in), but then it made the connection. Is that any help, i.e. how can I rectify that?

It's now doing that to me!

In the past when I was getting loads of problems, because everybody else were't also getting them Richard R suggested it was down to the machines I was using, but after the last GC software upgrade all problems dissapeared.
