    Did I hear it right?
The BBC are putting it up for grabs and intending using the cheapest weather forecasters they can find.
Personally, I always prefer the BBC forecast from the Met Office, its clear and reasonably concise, without too much show man ship, or too much of the waffle about needing an umbrella because it might rain.

Lets hope we dont see them go down the road of some of the other channels.

Ever seen a Ch 5 forecast?
    Biggest waste of time ever.

      Hi Pete,

I've not heard of anything but the BBC forecasts for the Midlands are absolute rubbish. They tend to just forecast for Birmingham and b*g*e* everyone/everywhere else.

Didn't there used to be someone who forecast the weather using seaweed and usually got it right? A bit of competition would be good, they got today completely wrong for here, apart from a shower at mid-day it's been glorious, went down the allotment for a couple of hours and hardly anyone there, most folk staying indoors to avoid the amber rain alert that never happened

Yep, I know you can knock them, but there are some real rubbish forecasts out there.

Dont think it will ever be an exact science, but I think they are the best on TV.

They spend hundreds of millions on forecasting computers and still they cant get the forecasts right.
The weather coming in from the Atlantic is just too hard to predict end of. They cant do it and I wish they would just own up to it.
Just give us a bit of into on what the jet stream is doing along with atlantic storm data and we could do it ourselves.

I've been using Accuweather for a few years now, for my local area it's been much more accurate than the BBC/Metoffice. I find it much easier to look at an App on the phone than tuning into the TV. Also it goes a month in advance - pretty useful when I'm going on hols and need to plan for watering or shading.

The Met Office also go a month in advance, its just not shown on TV.
And really pie in the sky, so I can see why its not on the TV.

I'm really getting at what we might get for a "forecast" if some other organisation gets the BBC job.

I think it's something to do with the present Government cut backs on the BBC and applying pressure on the TV licence revenue. They've put a Minister in who has overall sway over the financial purse and who is reputed not be be a fan of the BBC. Sky News has the announcer doing a voice over over not very good maps of the forecast weather and it looks like the Government is going to slash the quality that the BBC, in my opinion, always gives.:dunno::gaah:
