After a long wait, I was called out of the Blue today, to take my allotment

It is in a listed buildings Victorian walled garden, and the plots are immaculate
I have to wait and allow the present tenant to harvest her crop, She moves up
to a full plot, I get her old half plot
I have included the site URL so as to let you see it

    Happy days

Thankfully all the work has been done, you access through large steel gates set in the North wall (with your own key) gates must be locked at all times, as you enter it is like a patchwork quilt
every site tended, and full of produce, flowers and Veg

My problem is I have nothing to do, and I do not have a dickie doo of what to plant first in Oct and look as if I know what I am doing

At home it was a case of a 3m x 3m bed, potatoes, runner beans, peas, carrots in buckets, onions and a clump of rhubarb in an out of the way corner,

Time to quiz all you good folk on GC :-)

I don't think you'll go near it but do avoid the A27 around Shoreham, it's still closed following the air crash.

Have a great time and hope the weather improves for you.

I had my meeting today with the Committee, shown round, and met the folk,
                            everyone was most helpful,
The listed building glass houses have been restored, if wanted then you can rent a part of it (I am unsure how it will work, as people growing tomatoes have different needs to people growing cucumbers, or melons, chillies etc )

My plot is 63 on the map, has been well tended and still is, I got a crop plan for current and past years. the main water tap is ten feet away, we can use a hosepipe, but people with cans have priority
In addition to my £5 a year rent there is a compulsory donation of £5 a year to the committee, this pays for, manure, and seeds, along with two or three social bonfire and BBQ's

You can bring your car on hard road surface, right to your plot, to pick up or deliver stuff but must park outwith the allotments, there is hard standing on the grass that the Council maintain

I left my camera back in the house :-(, though the site is exactly as per the pics on the web site
                            http://www.balbirnieallotments.org.uk/

Original, my site is the red block

                            Asis.jpg

The toilets have running water, male female and disabled
One container has under lock and key, expensive items that have been donated or bought, rotovators, shredders, mini tractor and carts
One cabin has a collection of gardening RHS encyclopedia and magazines, notice board and kettle

I do not have access until the Council have processed my lease agreement and paid rent, then £10 deposit for set of keys about two weeks time

                            Lucky Jack McH
