I'm a mathematician and can't handle these numbers. Particularly with speeds! The video below shows a "supersonic boom". Basically the jet is travelling at the speed of sound. That means that when the jet engines are roaring, their sound is travelling at the same speed as the jet  All the sounds waves are stacked up on top of each other (lamens terms) and hit you in one go as a bystander.

Now imagine being on Neptune. Theoratically you could shout into oncoming wind (travelling at the speed of sound) and someone stood millimeters away from you wouldn't be able to hear you. :th scifD36: Here's a thought... the sound would literally hover around you're face until it dispersed... like an instant constant echo.

Excuse me while I find my medication :rolleyespink:

        1. The character in the book ‘The Three Musketeers’ was based upon a real person. He was Charles de Batz-Castlemore, Captain Lieutenant of the Musketeers, who was known as D’artagnan (a family name). He was the officer in charge at the siege of Maestricht (25/6/1673 ) and was killed by a musket ball in his throat.

'London Peculiar' was the name given to the extremely thick fogs that used to occur through the middle ages and into the Victorian age. This was caused by the particulates and gasses given off by the burning of coal.

In the early 1800's it got nicknamed 'A Pea Souper' after the colour that the fog had, which was a yellowy green.

'London Peculiar' is now the name of a thick pea and ham soup.

Although it was a predominantly massive problem in the 18th and 19th Centuries the worst occurrence was in The Great Smog of 1952. It is said to have caused 4,000 deaths in two days and a possible 12,000 deaths in total! This brought about the Clean Air Act in 1956.

I still clearly remember walking down the streets in London and not being able to see past my waist. I have that problem now, but for a different reason.
