Seems a good idea but not sure we can help. :noidea:

We entered three shows last year and won 46 awards, but with plants etc. (some were arts and crafts) we just used what we had in the garden. With enough plants we get plenty of choice - and don't do anything in particular for the shows.

For example: we have just won the runner bean prize for the tenth year in a row but it's easy when we're picking 50lb of beans a week!

OMG 50lbs of beans a week!, just as well you don't have very close neighbours as they'd need gas masks with you and Mrs S wading through that lot:). I on the other hand have just picked my 1st and possibly only Broad Bean, thankfully the rest of my veg haven't been a dead loss.

It's not just that one, I've got 2 more over 50lbs - my best 3 have an aggregate weight of about 175lbs.

It's relatively easy to deal with stored 20 pounders - cut them up, use a few pounds then put some in the fridge and cook/freeze the rest, but a 60+ pounder gets a little bit more difficult, especially as it's been covered to prevent ripening/hardening of the skin slowing down growth, so he biggest wont store for so long and might need using whilst I'm still cropping courgettes and 'standard' size marrows. I like strips of raw yellow courgettes in salads, but I think our hens are going to get a big share of this marrow.

@shiney , that's 'only' 7.14 lbs/day, so assuming a 33% loss for topping/tailing/stringing, 4.78 lbs/day, which used in 2 meals/day between the 3 of us would be 1.6 lbs/day each, and as we're using them with 2 meals a day (including cooked beans in salads cold with Pesto sauce) might mean we could much our way through about half of what you grow (plus put some in our freezers). Think big!

@Scrungee Well done on your 1st's :yay:

Those were just the runners. The French beans crop at about a third of the rate. Unfortunately we lost 91 plants to the rabbits . Otherwise we would have doubled that amount.

The rabbits also got all but two of the green French bean plants and half of the yellow ones. :mute:

That was in early June, rabbit pie mid June and just yesterday seen another rabbit. They tend to leave the mature plants but the slugs and earwigs like to eat the French beans.

Oh I know all about big @Scrungee, I have a slight maroon tinge to me these days as wading my way through tonnes of Beetroot. Last year my Beetroot was pants but this year I am up to my eyeballs with it. Luckily I love Beetroot BUT there is a limit. Wonder if you can freeze it? I already have 6 huge jars of it pickled in Balsamic vinegar (yum) but still got about 6 dozen good sized to deal with. All suggestions as to how to make the best of the remainder very welcome.

But can be extremely productive and easy to prepare as all you need to do is snip off the ends with scissors.
