As I dont use my printer regularly, when I do go to use it, somehow it seems to have forgotten the wi fi connection to my lap top.
I then have to go down the road of setting the whole thing up again and messing around with those childish passwords etc. before I can print anything.

So I cant imaging that a printer has more than about a two week memory, well mine hasn't, anyway.

LOL .... yip .... how right you all are. My printer sends info to Canon every so often. Just a small part of my 'grumpy old man' tirade. One of the great problems in life is that the way we were taught is the right way, or so we believe. So, when we are faced with younger peeps with a different point of view as it is seen today, it is wrong. And THAT is why Woo's attitude to the whole thing is probably the right one. Move with the times. I still find it difficult in the extreme :dbgrtmb:

Like yourself @whis4ey I'm one of GC's mature members :) and I agree with what you say, but I've learnt that it is easier to keep up with technology taking it a step at a time, than lagging behind and then having to take a leap to catch up.

I don't like the intrusion of others, particularly large companies into my personal life and information, but what can we do about it? Absolutely nothing! Because when it boils down to it someone somewhere has got all the information they need about us having gained it from a loophole we've missed. Yes, it's worrying but I think we have to accept the fact that the world knows our business whether we like it or not. Even so, I will still continue to destroy my machines and shred and compost every piece of paper that has my details on it. Old habits die hard! :)

Sheal - thank you for your thoughts - I didn't permanently lose any pictures as they were backed up. But I dislike a system that allows that to happen, as I am sure that many people don't back up their data.

I installed Windows 10 on the weekend on my good desktop and old laptop. It's really good and I'm very impressed, the fact I upgraded via a download and everything worked afterwards is no small feat whatsoever. Plus no need to upgrade your system ever again, goodbye install discs!

            • The good: Startup/shutdown is faster, faster in general, more detailed task manager, Direct X 12 support, native Photos app with backup, looks brilliant.
            • The bad: The app store is missing a lot of stuff and is riddled with scam/waste apps, the outlook app has never worked, two places to change settings 'Settings'/'Control Panel', forced auto updates, doesn't remember my preferred wifi network.

Some little niggles with easy workarounds for most but all in all it's a pretty good looking Operating System and works very well - FOR FREE!

Mine upgrade has worked very quickly, can't see any issues so far, had a quick check and everything seems to be where it should be. Only one thing I had to change was to make Chrome my default rather than Edge (a bit naughty from Microsoft to change my defaults without asking), otherwise 100%

Yes I had to do that too. I'm just waiting for Chrome to be updated so it looks more modern, compared to Edge it's starting to look a bit Fisher Price.

Don't forget to adjust your privacy settings! They're listening and watching what you type a lot. I turned it all off.

I agree, especially the "Advertising ID" if you don't like the idea of being tracked and targeted by adverts.

Well all these reports have given me confidence . I can now buy my new computer this Autumn , may wait until Windows 10 Version 2 is released though
Who does the best deals on computers these days ? Had my Dell now for 10 years , and been very pleased with it. At work all the puters are Lenovo the Chinese company.

I'm pleased for all of you that W10 is working so well. :blue thumb:

I still can't see any need for me to change as there's nothing that I appear to need from it:noidea: - and it still hasn't offered me the upgrade. Maybe it knows that I'm not particularly interested :heehee:

Now if I could down load Windows 10, for free, onto my old PC that is running XP, it might be worth doing.
But I cant really see any advantage to change from W8, unless I'm really not understanding the difference.
