I've traditionally always voted Labour, so I have no axe to grind. I do think that Corbyn, no matter how noble his beliefs might be, will guarantee that Labour won't get into power until 2025 at the earliest. Sure, he'll inject more interest in politics, but when it comes down to it, the people of this country won't vote him in.

I like him as a person but I think he hasn't a snowballs of doing what he says he wants to do.

As with all politicians, his policies will change over a period of time and move towards what's practical without alienating the people and businesses. Whether this can be achieved is anybody's guess!

Lets sit back for a while and see what happens with the infighting between the Labour politicians. After that we may get a better idea of what is likely to ensue.

Yep, I come from a traditonally Labour voting family. But in the 60's, while in the rif raf, the then Labour Government starting to cut back on defence and the Armed Forces suddenly felt abandoned and under attack from it's own government, I wasn't happy but I still voted Labour and have done until now. Now, I find that the Labour Party leaders are talking and mimicking the Conservative Leaders i.e: speaking a thousand words when asked a direct question and actually saying nothing.
I'm sure that Jeremy Corbyn is a good, sincere person, but his views are not mine nor what I believe to be what Labour and this Country needs in this seemingly increasingly dangerous world. His beliefs were good for the 40's and 50's but not for the 21st century and so he's, to me, fortunately, not ever going to be a Leader of a Government.
You also have to take into account his age, he's now 66 so in 5 years time when there's a General Election he'll be 71 plus:old:. We have not had such aged Prime Ministers for decades......and long may it remain so.
So while Corbyn might appeal to those who yearn for the old original Labour beliefs and the "Good Old Days" [which I assure you they were not:nonofinger:], I as a long standing Labour Voter will not ever vote for a Labour Party Leader and Party that seems to have stepped back several decades in a fast changing world:coffee::dunno:.

He came from being seen as an outsider to recently gathering incredible momentum that has taken many cynics by surprise. Therefore I think optimism for what he can achieve is realistic but I don't doubt that the road ahead will be a difficult one.

Well I don't know too much about him, but, from what's just been on the news I've heard two things that I disagree with 1) He wants to pull the UK out of NATO, and 2) One of the few Labour politicians I actually have any respect for Chuka Umunna has walked out of front bench politics and refused to work with him. I wonder who else will follow him.
I think this will be the start of the split of the Labour Party, much as what happened in the 80's with the Liberal Party/ Social Democrats / Liberal Democrats.

I think the count so far, Anthony, is Seven Labour MPs who have resigned from shadow posts and are refusing to work with Corbyn. I think there will be a lot more to come as Corbyn attempts to lead the Labour Party MPs in a direction few of them will want to go.

It is not that surprising that some have abandoned ship since what he is offering is (horror of horrors) a return to left wing politics! It is what Labour used to stand for after all. Of course there will be adjustments whilst the reshuffle is in progress i.e. whilst he elects those supporting his policies and this is to be expected.

I see that he is getting a predictable grilling, notably by Conservatives. My feeling is that they may need to reign it in a bit since if they are too vehemently against him, the effect they might have may be counter-productive, i.e. to turn people towards Jeremy rather than against him.

Well, it's obvious that only his cronies will be appointed to what will be an ineffectual Labour Party preaching to a minority of sycophants, while a majority of the non-believers will be waiting their chance to trip him and bring him down. The Conservatives will be thinking it's their birthday knowing that some of the policies going to be announced by Corbyn are going to sound like a 1930's government.:snork:

So do you Rosebay, as a woman, agree with his idea of segregation on trains.
Isn't this going back to the Victorian or earlier eras. This is the type of politics that other countries have been fighting for years to get rid of. We will be the laughing stock of the world. What next ?

Whilst I am generally in favour with most of his proposed plans, it does not mean that I fully endorse every single one....I doubt that many actually would!

To answer your question, I agree that it would be a backward step. It is well intentioned but flawed. I don't travel on tubes much but I have heard that it is a particular problem there. Indeed London Transport has launched a sexual harassment campaign whereby they encourage women to text report such incidences.

                    http://mashable.com/2015/04/14/tube-sexual-harassment-campaign/#tU8tqxC96EkV

Whilst some women would no doubt welcome this idea of train segregation, it goes against the empowerment of women I feel. (I personally am well able to assert myself in a tricky situation). Thankfully this issue is far from being the main agenda of what he proposes. The outline for his proposed programme is in my post #14 on the previous page.

Ive never voted labour and never will but Im glad to see a Labour man incharge of the party instead of some Tory Light professional politician.

Good luck to him and I hope he can help make lives better for millions of people in this country who have been either ignored or attacked by the political and media classes of London and the south east.

I think he is Michael Foot MK 2, and will probably last as long as he did.

Lets just watch, as the days get colder, if the donkey jacket comes out?
