@ARMANDII - looking at your posts, something is amiss hardware wise; I'd be tempted to boot the PC to the optical drive and run Seatools on it and just make sure that the hard drive is OK. Have you ever had any problems with the hard drive or the RAM?

I have been doing that several times, Woo, but Microsoft seem to have made it reluctant to make other Browsers the default.:dunno::wallbanging::heehee:

I knew something was amiss, FC!!:hate-shocked::heehee: Actually, I think it was the fact that I started with a "blank" Computer, initiated the installation of Windows 8.1 [already lying in wait], followed immediately by the "upgrade" to Windows 10.
The installation of Windows 8.1 went fairly smoothly although slowly. It was the installation of Windows 10 that made me almost reach for the loaded pistol:gaah:
There was severe "hanging" on commands as I said, but also there seemed to be interminable phases of the installation. So one phase would be eventually completed followed by a page of "Hi, just sorting things" followed by "Let's get started" followed by "Installing Windows 10", with each phase taking the exhausting length of time that it did. I think, if my memory serves me right, that there were around 4 or 5 installation phases each followed by "just sorting things". So when I got to the end I didn't really believe it.
I have the suspicion that the software was lagging due to having just installed W8.1 and then immediately installing W10 which had to then tuck W8.1 into a file while still installing itself. So perhaps W10 was so slow due to having to do things piece by piece?

The Laptop is the ASUS TP550LA

        i5 Core
        1 TB Drive
        8 GB RAM

I have to admit that the Laptop is now behaving superbly but it took two days to lapse for it to do so which, to me, suggests that a lot of backstage sorting out of the two installations and one OS being moved to a file was still carrying on after the "final" installation.:dunno::coffee:

Well, all's well that ends well I suppose @ARMANDII - Asus seem to be making some nice kit at the moment too, so looks like you've picked a good 'un

Anybody bought a new laptop with Win 10 already installed?

I'm looking at sparkly new Win 10 ultrabooks with HD screens, SSD drives, 3 years free warranty & £100 cashback and comparing against Macbook pro retinas, but the later still seem rather expensive even if getting ordered by daughter with 15% uni discount with free 3 years care, which would mean deffering until my birthday next year rather than getting it by Xmas.

Got my new Win10, SSD, HD, 8GB RAM, 3xUSB3, £100 cashback, 3yr free warranty, etc. Laptop yesterday, so now getting to grips with it (plus all these new fangled 'gestures I've been putting off learning).

Being 13.3" (and only 12mm thick) it'll fit in my Lowepro flipside sport camera bag for checking shots on the hoof (plus even my mini telescopic fishing rod and a reel!)

EDIT: Also got a USB to Ethernet adaptor with it, handy for configuring my Wifi SD card/mobile USB hard drive device, that enables both to connect with my tablet.

Always trying to avoid being a dinosaur.

Well @Scrungee and @Sheal , I'll be waiting for your new laptops consumer reports on W10 in a week or so . To put it bluntly after two months reading posts and other reviews on it , I am still totally confused !

Dinosaurs used to make good pets :blue thumb:. We used to have one when we lived in our cave.

No problems for me. I've still got my ten year old desktop but have come into the more modern world recently with a laptop.

It's a Toshiba Equium A210 running the brand new (at the time) Windows Vista. It cost exactly the same price as the desktop - nothing! :heehee:

I also have installed a VM system with XP 98 on it so that I can run some old equipment.

The two computers do exactly what I need :dbgrtmb:. The laptop would be too heavy to carry anywhere but I'm not interested in being 'connected' when not indoors. :)

                  ShineyLife is simple.

Feeling my way around Win10, mainly finding where MS have 'hidden' loads of stuff.

Changed default search from Bing to Google on MS Edge (new Win10 browser with no toolbars which I really dislike, having used software with extensive ones in the past such as Autocad), pinned IE11 to taskbar and also changed default browser for that to Google.

Next changes are default email and calendar.

Spending lots of time Googling on tablet to get ways of making changes on my new laptop.

Looking on another thread, it appears @Sheal 's new laptop might be a 8.1 with upgrade to 10, so I could be one of the first to get a laptop with it up and running and hopefully that'll avoid some of the problems associated with upgrading, not a single problem for me so far ......

P.S. To me it seems like a good time of year to be making the change, end of growing season, beginning of bargains season, plus lots of dark, wet days with nothing to do.

Here's a copy of a post I've made in the Thread "New Laptop"

"Hi Sheal, the problem is that when the camera is connected to the computer W10 can't "find" the camera although my Security System immediately recognises it and scans it for problems. So I've spent at least a week delving into the depths of W10 finding trouble shooting programs and running all previous W7 camera related programs and either repairing them or testing them......all to no avail until now:dunno:.
I have used my Pentax K5 installation disc to reload the software but that hasn't worked. I've also been on the Net updating the Pentax software and also on the W10 problems forums to try to find a solution.........that didn't work:gaah:.
But in the last hour while delving into the W10 system again I checked two programs that I do have, "Lightroom" and Photoshop", and, although according to W10 my camera is still not connected, both programs recognise the existence of the camera and I can download my images onto their Libraries which, while I use both programs, I don't use them for storage. It's a long winded way but at least it's a way. I'll see what problems I encounter on the way but hopefully it's a solution that will work and I can live with.:dunno::snork:"

Almost finished setting things up on my new W10 laptop, inkjet/laser printers and other devices all working fine, laborious job of installing 'Apps' (AKA Software/Programmes) almost complete, display/theme/whatever settings all sorted to my liking, all sorts of online storage/image hosting/etc. sorted, emails [1] and synchronised Google calendar sorted, now just need to import a whole load of bookmarks.

Haven't encountered a single problem yet, although I'll be suggesting to Mrs Scrungee that she avoids upgrading until she too gets a new Win 10 machine.

[1] Got something like 60 between us, but only 6 for general use.
