    Hi all.

My mum has come back in from picking elderberries and is worried about some that seem exactly like elderberries but have larger stones and green flesh inside like an avocado.

When you squash it it doesn't give out any red juice at all but it does seem generally ripe, and the berries are a nice deep colour, unlike unripe elderberries.

When you hold a bunch up from the stem it seems a bit more upright that a more floppy elderberry buy truly it otherwise looks identical.

Any ideas? A half hour Google has thrown up nothing useful!

    Thanks

    Hiya Waiting for the Weather,

From the picture I'd say it looks very much like elderberries, BUT, I'd say, you need to make more sure than my word for it....

I did find this rather thorough article here, hope it might help you....

Not Elderberries then, they have small pips and dark juice (except for White Elderberries, but they don't have dark skins http://www.specialtyproduce.com/produce/White_Elderberries_9432.php ).

P.S. Try Googling Dogwood berries like these:
