    Hi,

This was a plant I bought for someone in hospital a month ago. I brought it home and planted it, carefully putting anti-slug copper tape around it. It had two blooms which faded and the wind blew them off. But I looked at it today and there is a new flower on it, beautiful as when I bought it!

    Can anyone identify it please?

    Many thanks.

Begonia - wow, I had no idea. Will be up the garden centre tomorrow for some tomato food!

      Many thanks :)

Should this begonia be lifted in October-November please?

Some begonias develop a corm so when the plant dies off you can dig up the corm, dry it off and store that. But yours looks like a non-tuberous type so you have to keep it in leaf over winter, they are not frost hardy so you'll need to bring it indoors.

Okay thanks, so I'll need a big pot ready by the end of October. There is a greenhouse so that's no worries. I was amazed it flowered, a tiny potted plant from the hospital shop, it's done well. The nurses - out of kindness - kept over-watering it, it would have drowned unless I kept on pouring off the excess every time I visited :)

You'll need a heated greenhouse, better to keep them indoors.

Thank you, I don't then see why I shouldn't house it in mum's old room, near the window? Alternatively, I could place it in the sun lounge - no frost there but potentially pretty cold in the middle of winter. And pretty hot too, on a day when the sun is streaming in - perhaps the room is a better bet, with a mild, consistent temperature?

So I await a weather warning of 'first frosts' then remove the begonia to a pot, and take it indoors?

        Thanks again! :)

Hi, it's now November 2nd. No frost in sight but should I be thinking about potting up the Begonia and bringing it indoors now? Any other tips please?

        Thanks ;)

I definitely would be bringing it in somewhere warm. They live on damp cliffs in tropical forests so we're a bit cold for them.

Begonia survived indoors for 1 month, is now on last legs, 1 leaf left - any suggestions please? Thanks.
