    Thanks. :blue thumb:

It's a bit puzzling as we definitely didn't plant any Galtonia. The compost that we put in that new bed was only last year's compost just from lawn cuttings and is unlikely to have any Galtonia seeds - unless the seeds got onto the lawn. It has a lot more horse manure than compost in it and I suppose it's possible that it came in with that. We put about 40 x 70litre bags of horse manure in there!

Is it possible that they could have been dormant for almost 40 years? That's the length of time since we planted the conifers there.

The plants stand about 3ft high which seems a bit tall for a first year, but they may like the soil they're in - everything else seems to! It's the right time of year for them to be blooming.

Anyway, we'll soon know for sure. :)

Hi Anthony, I given more cuttings of that one than I can count and have one in a pot ready to be given to a friend who has just moved to a new house with nothing really in the garden. It flowers very well even though, at the moment, it is in a fairly shady SouthEast corner of the garden closely planted to a red Acer and Choisya.

A puzzler then. I would say that they're not first year bulbs with pretty much 100% certainty though.

Don't forget to harvest the seed as they're ten times better than the bought seed as far as germination goes.

This small cyclamen is flowering for the first time about 3.5years from seed. Took about 12 months for the seed to germinate.
