Do you like me, go through your bill with a fine tooth comb:scratch:

I was wondering if people work out their daily consumption in pound/pence

I know my husband always says ' How much' :wallbanging:

I keep a spreadsheet of my readings/bills, that way I can tell if it's cheaper to switch suppliers. We use what we use, there's not much we can do to reduce our consumption. You could turn down the thermostats and wear more clothes to save gas, use energy saving bulbs/leds to save electric.

I just wondered how much people pay per day, making a comparison between North,
      South , East and West?

Ah I see, well last year (Jan - Dec 2014) I paid:

      £2.00/day electric.
      £3.34/day gas (heating/cooking).

It will vary if people use gas for cooking, also some folk only have electric for heating or may use wood/coal/oil.

I have one of those (free) lecy monitors. Great kit and makes you cut your usage dramatically.
        Usage of c 4-5 units a day, c £20pm.
Led tv,halogen oven, hot water flask, led bulbs = big savings for me.
Next step change to GB Energy.
Mums getting solar panels at hers monday should see a return of c.10% a year on investment.
Solar panels + greenhouse + soil warming cables would be a cheap way to heat plants over winter I`d guess ?

          Hi @liliana,
We don't use gas we have oil central heating & a multi fuel burner, we have been given a large supply of free logs! A tree surgeon was working for a company where hubby does some work, they somehow got talking & the chap said hubby could have the wood which was really kind we tried to pay him but he wouldn't take anything! He delivered several loads & said we were doing him a favour as it saved him lots of time shredding it!
My electric is £40 per month we are both out at work everyday & I only do the washing when I have a full load & never leave anything on standby, we have energy efficient light bulbs & are slowly changing over to LED lightbulbs (they are blooming expensive!)
My oil is approx £60-80 per month (depending on how cold it is! At the current price it would be less than that due to the price being lower) I always ring around for the best deal, when I've knocked everyone down I go back to Geoff & ask for a better deal!
My coal works out at about £6.00 per month (i buy it in bulk & only when it's on offer! Then I still ask for a better deal!)
I always change energy supplier to get the best deal & only use the tumble drier when I absolutely have too! not because Im mean it's just I hate waste of any kind! :phew:
          I hope that helps :grphg:
Ps I e just re read the post sorry I haven't told you how much per day
          Electric £1.33
          Heating £2.66
(As lykewakewalker rightly said it will depend on house size, ours is a reasonable size 4 bed detached house).

Nope, I just pay the bill. Every now and then I hear about a new supplier, and some of my neighbors switch, so I do also. Not sure there is a major difference. We have gas heat and gas stove. We don't use much lighting in the house, only in the rooms were are in. The major problem is my husband, he wants it warmer than it should be and does not like putting on a sweater, he says he should be able to walk around in his undies and be comfortable in his own house. And he is also the problem maker that took out our wood stove in the basement that saved us a lot of money in the winter.

Over here, our electricity rates have increased dramatically because our current provincial government is inept. We are charged higher rates if we use it during the day and premium rates if we use it between 5-7 in the evenings. Young families who cook for their children at the regular dinner hour are punished with high bills.

I have not used my clothes dryer for nearly 3 years, I use solar power for the greenhouses. I have halogen lighting, I use the dishwasher only at night and I do most of my baking on the weekends or in my wood burning oven or sun oven.

I have reduced our usage by over 40% and yet our bill is higher than it was last year and the year before that and so on. Our average daily cost is around $7. CDN or around 3.5 of your pounds.

Our home is centrally heated with natural gas and that is fairly reasonable compared to lighting the place!

My husband is retired and watches a 50" plasma TV all day so that probably contributes to the high electrical bill.

The daily fuel costs will also depend will on the property itself, detached, semi or terrace, how many reception/bedrooms, quality of insulation, double/triple glazing etc.
My average costs for the same period are similar to @JWK, £3.76 per day for gas (heating and cooking) and £2.15 for electricity, this is for a 4 bedroom detached with lounge, dining room, kitchen and utility room. I do watch costs, getting dual fuel discounts and so on but will not skimp on the heating.

We have Gas CH and fire +electricity , that costs £103 per month averaged out over the year in a detached house. Just had the kitchen and downstairs bathroom re fitted . We fitted 18 LED lights they are really good now lovely light level and colour . With all the lights on its less than 100W . Our supplier as in previous posts is OVO who seem to be 15% cheaper than the big 6.
The biggest saving you can make is fit a condenser gas boiler that really does cut costs by 30%. Another saving would be to convince Mrs H to wear a thermal jacket , scarf , balaclava and Ug boots in the house , then I can turn the heating down several degrees

We pay around £1,000 p.a. for elec heating our small 3 bed Victorian semi with solid walls and drafty single glazed sash windows, and we're both at home all day, but we wear fleece jumpbers of increasing thickness as it gets colder, don't put the heating on until November, keep it on low until beginning of March, and burn loads of free logs, pallets and paper logs made from newspapers and magazines.

The oven, washing machine and dishwasher go on early (get up at 5:30 am all year round) on Economy 7, nothing much more we can do other than massive alterations to instal internal insulation or replace our original windows. External insulation would destroy the character of the property which is pictured and described in the Conservation Area document as a "heritage asset"

Our little luxury is a small amount of coal, which for the last few years has been from a pallet of damaged bags at half price, loads of half price bags from a garden centre closing down sale, plus plenty of the buy 2 get 1 free bags from Wickes which all worked out cheaper than bulk delivery. We have a cast iron kettle that's heated by the fire and used for filling hot water bottles.

Same here...we do have an oxygen concentrator downstairs and one upstairs which wacks up the bill but we get a rebate for that. We put the heating on mostly for health reasons but also because I remember how cold I was as a child. I think this is why I hate being cold - just can't stand it!
