For various reasons I'm finally thinking about getting a new mobile phone, iphone/ipad whatever. My current phone does text messages and calls but not a lot else. So I would appreciate suggestions, opinions , pro, cons etc.

      Your 3 main choices are:
      1) Apple - expensive - paying for the name but very slick and well thought out.
      2) Android - e.g. Samsung - much cheaper and as Harry says there are apps for everything
      3) Windows - I've got a Windows phone, a Nokia Lumia - it's cheap and it comes with most things I need, I don't have to faff about and download apps like on Android. The trouble with Windows phones are that support is limited so for example my bank (Nationwide) doesn't provide an app for it. But for me that's no big deal I don't need to check my bank balance whilst I'm down the allotment.

I suppose it depends what you want to do, both me and Mrs JWK use ours for all our outgoing calls even at home as it's much cheaper than a landline. We use 'Whatsapp' which is really good for keeping in touch with the rest of our family, also you can call anywhere for free over WiFi.

The biggest downside of my phone is the very poor camera, it suffers from poor focusing and shutter lag a bit like the first generation of digital cameras. It means I have to carry a compact camera around with me as well. My previous Nokia had a brilliant camera, it even had a proper flash. Next time I upgrade I'll get one that has good reviews for the camera part as well.

HTC One M8 or M9 - nice, robust metal casing with the best audio I have ever heard on a phone and easy to use. Runs 4G as standard, is 802.11n wi-fi capable, and can often be had for now't on a half decent contract.

Im not massively keen on iphones but i have one. I have no complaints from it

I also have an ipad which i love.

I only stuck with apple because i already know it as an operating system as i have had macs since i was 15 because they are better for design stuff. Plus i prefer the clearer layouts to windows. Not a fan of windows at all.

Most stuff works with apple or android. i have found that windows doesnt have the necessary apps for a lot of things after speaking to my brother and looking at compatable products as gifts for him.

Had a Sony. Broke within three weeks. Sent away to get fixed. Came back. Another couple weeks broke again. Bought iPhone almost have it a year and still going good. Not the easiest to get used to. But think the secret is a good cover

I have an iPhone & iPad mini & hubby has just bought an Apple Mac, (he's a gaget man that's for sure!) I love my iPhone & iPad mini both really easy to use, I wouldn't change either. Hubby has an iPhone & an iPad, his iPad is bigger than mine & I find it a bit heavy. not being technical that's all I can really tell you! :heehee:

Nigel don't forget that on Samsung / Android , you have essential apps such as......
1 - Drink a pint off beer and belch
            2 - Over 20 rude noises
Essential tools for a busy life style
