storing onions

    Which type of onions seem to store best ?
    type i.e round ,flat ,red,white ,golden.
    which do the forum members think is the best variety.

    Id go golden in a net suspended from the garage shed roof myself.

    I dont think it matters too much, shape and colour is usually down to variety.
    Just make sure they are dried off in the sun really well before storing.

    In my experience the large exhibition types tend not to store well as they are over bloated with water.

      They need eating/using up/freezing ASAP, so if thinking of growing 100's of pounds of 'Kelsae' type onions, they wont keep you in onions all year round very long.

      My experience is that overwintering onions wont last as long as spring planted, but the longest storing onions I've ever known were a few nine bags of onions bought obtained free from Morrisons using vouchers from The Sun (and we had vouchers to get free copies of The Sun from Tesco) and they lasted almost a year!
