It works differently here. You have to call them in at each stage before starting the next stage. They aren't allowed to tell you to just carry on without making their inspection.

Well, this is the Pub that keeps me sustained while on the Annual Fishing Trip in and around Rutland. I started going there while in the RAF, in the late 60's] as the river Nene is just half a mile away and that's where we had our own stretch of river for fishing. In those days it had a big, buxom, burly, Bar Maid, and there were 4 of the huge Barrels behind the counter. I remember going in there for a pint and ordered one from a barrel to be told "it's orfff", so I ordered a pint from the next barrel and was told it was "orfff", so I ordered a pint from the third barrel and was told, again, "it's orff". I managed to get a pint from the 4th barrel and, out of curiosity, asked what would happen to the "orfff" ale. The Bar Maid gave me a lovely smile and pointing a thumb at herself said "Don't you worry, Lovely, I can drink anything":hate-shocked::heehee:

But, thankfully, things change and it's now a Free House owned and run by Nick and Diane. The Beer is just great as is the food, so after a hard days fishing it's the natural place to head for. They have live music from Bands, sole musicians and singers either organised or impromptu. It's the only pub in the Village with another 3 in the next Village.......but I reckon it's the best!!

Not all Village Pubs have a commode outside their front door but they do seem to have a Church right outside:scratch::doh:. I'm never sure whether that is for the Congregation to get a quick pint straight after a boring sermon, or whether it's for the Priest to keep an eye on his Church while he's satisfying his thirst.:dunno::heehee:

years ago, when we lived in Cleveland, Ohio. My dad referred to "pubs" as "beer gardens". The only ones I recall, visually being pointed out to me, was some corner building, it was brick. Now that is about 50 years ago.

First time I heard of Beer Gardens was in Germany.

Now we seem to have them here, mostly just a pub garden really, to be used in the summer, or these days mostly by the smokers who have been forced outside whatever the weather.
