    Evening all.
My sister posted a photo on facebook of a plant she found in her garden. She asked if anyone knows what it is, so I said that I'd ask on here.

It looks like a geranium or cranesbill, but we are not sure which one.
It is no more than 10" in height and has deep blue/purple flowers. The photo she posted shows a deep blue flower, but she said it looks more purple when you look at the actual plant.
I thought it might be meadow cranesbill, but the leaves are different. Does anyone know ?
She lives in south east Scotland, 10 miles south of Edinburgh. The soil in that area generally tends to be clay, but is more of a clay loam in her garden. She didn't say whether it is in her front or back garden, so her front garden is west facing and the back garden is east facing.
I have asked her if she could split a little bit off the plant for me :spinning:

Thanks in advance :blue thumb: 12191915_1628387534080609_2763820304441650819_n.jpg

Hi CJ, it's hard to accurately identify a variety of a plant due to differences in how cameras and computers render colours. So a blue might not be as blue or as dark or pale in an image as the real thing is.

            Thanks @ARMANDII
I love those shades of blue :spinning:

The closest I've found through looking online is the meadow cranesbill, but the leaves are not quite the same.
I know exactly what you mean about colours appearing differently on different screens though. I tend to check the greens in the background on photos, but even that doesn't always show true.
There aren't even any camera details in this photo's properties, so I don't know whether she used her fuji finepix or her kodak bridge camera
I'll ask her but it won't be until tomorrow. She goes to bed early as her daughter has school in the morning.

              "Meadow cranesbill
              [IMG]
              Common Name: Meadow cranesbill
              Genus: Geranium
              Species: pratense
              Cultivar: 'Midnight Reiter'
              Skill Level: Beginner
              Exposure: Full sun, Partial shade
              Hardiness: Hardy
Soil type: Well-drained/light, Clay/heavy,Chalky/alkaline, Dry, Moist
              Height: 90cm
              Spread: 60cm
Time to divide plants: March to May

An unusual variety of hardy geranium, with violet-blue flowers that appear above the dark-purple leaves in early to mid-summer. A compact grower, its neat mounds of foliage provide an extended season of interest. Its dark colouring combines well with bright the silver of Astelias and acid green of Tanacetums. It's a highly adaptable plant and will happily grow on a wide variety of soils, in full sun or partial shade. If given a light pruning once a year after flowering, it will provide a low-maintenance, colourful point of interest year after year."

Well, taking into account the unreliability of colour rendition it could be, but I don't see any dark spots on the plant of your sisters. Also the petals of your sister's plant appear to be narrower than the Meadow variety.:dunno: Of course the plant, [just to make things more complex:dunno::heehee:] could be a Sport or Hybrid, I have several Sports of plants in my garden that appear to be a combination of several nearby same species plants.

                Thanks @ARMANDII
I'm wondering if it is a hybrid because I can't find anything like it anywhere on the net.
It just appeared in my sister's garden, she found it while doing a bit of weeding.
I'll give her a call later on to ask if she has any other hardy geraniums other than the Geranium "Chocolate Candy" we both bought at Gardening Scotland a couple of years ago.
                G. "Chocolate Candy" has chocolate/bronze foliage and tiny pink flowers. We saw it on display on one of the trade stands so went back at the end of the day to buy it .
