@Dips Although not strictly true it's best to view different types of colour in different ways.

Wash in wash out are stains or rinses and their molecule size is large. This means that they don't penetrate the hair structure. Although, if your hair surface is damaged they might get part way in.

Semi permanents are smaller molecules and get further in and permanent colours are even small and penetrate even further.

My hair is super absorbant to most things and will show the colour. So my hair is different colours in different places depending on the water. I also have to wet my hair before going into a swimming pool because it always goes green which then i have to grow out.

I really wanted to try hairchalks but my hairdresser reckoned this might not be the best idea with my hair because it changes colour and holds on to the colour far too easy. He had used some on his neice and they had stained his work area so that put me off. My wash in wash out hair colour i had to grow out lol it was brown and then faded to an olively greeny brown colour that didnt disappear.

That's the problem when hair is so absorbent. :noidea:

When I was in my 20's I went through the process of stripping my almost black hair down to blonde. Long, expensive process. And when it was done, I looked something like Rod Steward/burnt out old hooker. :yikes:

Died it back two days later! Never touched hair dye again...:)

            Very interesting...
I've got very curly hair, which normally means that the hair folicals don't lie flat, as far as I understand.... Using light semi-permenant colour, 4-6 washes, would colour my hair for about 3 months, so it would fade out just as the regrowth would otherwise start to show. Very lucky, meant I never had obvious roots showing. :) I also found that just half a "kit" would be more than enough to to dye longer than shoulder-length hair (IE shoulder-length when dried and curly)...

Now we don't have mains drainage, I want to keep the septic tank happy, and don't dye my hair. Really enjoying being natural, think the grey haired look suits me, and neither mum nor mum-in-law knew I'd been dying my hair for over a decade!

:heehee: I do occasionally do trendy. :loll:

I remember there were a few months as a teenager when people were having their hair permed to look like mine. Well, not like mine, per say :lolpt:, but you get my drift!

All my sisters and sister in laws in my family are dying their hair to keep them looking younger but I thought about it but can't stand all the hassle that goes with it and having chemicals on my head so have opted to letter nature take its course so I am gradually going grey and my blonde locks are dissapearing, and anyway I thought that grey was the In colour these days and even youngsters are paying to have the grey put in?

I shan't mind though if I go white like my mum did as I always think that that colour looks nice on women as well as men.

I would love to have curly hair. Mine is dead straight and doesnt curl and if you can get it to curl falls out within minutes. i can crimp my hair or plat it when wet and let it dry and have a huge afro but you will end up with straight bits at the roots and ends so looks odd

I want hair like lion babe or ella eyre

I get a bit bored of dead straight hair. The most i do to mine is wash it and brush it once and then let it dry and thats it. Everyone tells me how lucky i am to be a natural blonde with dead straight fine hair but its limited on what you can do and lacks volume.

Altho i seriously cant be bothered with spending loads and putting loads of effort into my hair so at least i dont have to do much with it.

                        Not quite right :)

The cross section of a straight hair is circular whereas a curly hair is oval. The follicles should still lie flat but there's more chance of some of them lifting slightly as they're more inclined to get tangled. :blue thumb:

I would certainly be able to demonstrate this! In fact, I can only comb my hair straight after washing and conditioning it... If I even think of letting it see a comb or brush at any other time, I am at high risk of resembling Crystal-Tips. Finger-combing is the nearest I can do, and then only sparingly!!
