The computer arrived today, a day early! Not having used Windows 8 or 10 I've opted to upgrade to 10. Setting the laptop up is probably beyond me so it's being picked up tomorrow by a chap who was recommended. I would usually ask my son-in-law but he doesn't like doing it.

My biggest fear is not being able to retrieve my photo's from the external back up drive. Armandii has given up trying to load his to '10'

I love Ebuyer, great service, ordered a mobile phone for my neighbour last year, it arrived with less than 24 hrs from ordering to delivery.

One of my still rare visits tonight. I'm glad I asked a professional to set up my new laptop, I would never have managed it. He's had it a week and is trying to iron out problems before loading Windows 10. My external back up drive is not releasing all my photo's for some reason..... it probably doesn't like Windows 8 like the rest of us! He has collected my old computer today to take the hard drive out and work with that instead.

This doesn't surprise me at all, it's the way my luck runs with anything new! :doh:It should be back with me by the weekend, fingers crossed. :fingers crossed:

Hi @fat controller, my computers up and running, thanks for your but can I ask a simple question please.

I've tried to adjust my touchpad settings to finger scrolling but I must be missing something, when I turn my computer on it has reverted back to the original settings, even though I've applied it. Should I be hitting the default button?

Hi @Sheal - it should retain the setting you have applied  - if you hit default, it will reset it to whatever the default setting is (presumably off)

Are you setting it within the Windows software, or is it in the touchpad's own software (most commonly Synaptics)?

@fat controller I'm going into Settings in Mouse Properties which is possibly Synaptics.

Mouse properties is the right place to go in almost all cases. When the laptop was set up (and I appreciate you might not know this), was there a selective startup sequence specified?

Some people choose to select which services start and which don't, and its not beyond the realms of possibility that the mouse manufacturer's driver has been disabled at startup. I can walk you through the steps to check, but its best we are both online at the same time rather than me post it and leave you to try it solo. I will be quite a bit tomorrow, not so much on Friday, and then all weekend I will be home (first full weekend off since August )

                  Sorry, I haven't got a clue.

I thought it would be simple to correct this, so it didn't take up much of your precious time. Thank you, but let's leave it until after the weekend as I've loaded Teamviewer today for my son to take over remotely on Sunday. I want to impose on you as little as possible. :)

                  Enjoy your weekend. :)

@Sheal Does this sound like your problem? If so might help your son get straight to the solution. http://www.tenforums.com/drivers-hardware/11805-windows-10-mouse-settings-reset-every-login.html

This is just one example of the sort of stuff I've been looking at that made me decide to get a new laptop with Win10 up and running. Lots of interesting reading for those thinking of upgrading.

Glad you've got help @Sheal, however I assure you that you wouldn't be imposing if you do ever need my help :)

I am looking forward to the weekend, I must admit - not that I am doing a hell of a lot; just going to chill out for a couple of days before going to a training course from Monday to Thursday
