The wind is increasing from it's usual 20-30mph and we're expecting up to 60/70mph gusts from the south-west later this afternoon. More often than not it blows from this direction which means my home is sheltered from the worst by my neighbours. We are also promised heavy rain for a couple of hours and that is just starting. The temperature is currently 14C/57F.

Looks like it's going to be time to batten down the hatches. Just watched the news. Temperature is on the turn today.

It's all quietning down here now and not as bad as the forecasters predicted. I'll stick to my own predictions in future, they're more reliable. :)

The weather was quite bright and sunny all morning but it felt cooler and fresher with a top temperature of 53f, so there was drop in temperature of around 11f from yesterday. Then in the afternoon the skies turned lead grey and there was just a hint of drizzle for a while. Right now the temperature is 47f and the pressure reading is 1028mbs. The forecast is for heavy rain over the next two days in our area.:gaah::coffee::snork:

Spent quite a while today "battening down the hatches" (turned out to be completely unnecessary) as we were due very high winds of about 60 mph......had plenty of rain and a few hefty gusts but that was all (thankfully). Like Sheal I am going to pay far less attention in the future to these almost daily warnings of terrible weather which then doesn't materialise. I don't think the weather broadcasters have ever recovered from the great storm of 1987 when Sevenoaks became Oneoak, consequently any weather even vaguely inclement seems to result in warnings being issued. Yes the far north of Scotland and the islands are in for a hammering but they are quite used to it and there are good reasons why the islands aren't covered in woodland!!!!! so nothing new.

I was living in Essex during the storm of 1987 @silu and it was devastating. The wind blew down my road and flattened just about every mature tree in it. It was heartbreaking to see the damage, not so much to buildings but nature, which takes decades to recover.

Many years ago, while in the rif raf, I spent over 6 months at Aird Uig, Isle of Lewis, which is on the Atlantic side of the Island, demolishing a Radar Station there. I used to take a lot of rambles over the local area and beaches and remember that 100mph winds were quite common there, and, as you say Silu, there are very few trees there. But I do remember the beaches had lots of Whale bones there and it looked a bit like Jurassic World.

I took your advice and we produced 5.4 kWh. :blue thumb:

The promised heavy rain didn't appear last night and neither did the winds. Temperature didn't drop a lot and, at 5 a.m., was 47.6F (9C). The sky is very clear at the moment so I think we shall have sunshine.

The forecast is 4C tonight and then warming up again for the weekend.

It's a lot cooler than of late as it's 7.8C at the moment. We had some windy conditions last night but nothing compared to what had been forecast. Someone's empty wheelie bin blew over but that was about it. It's been raining but it's now stopped and there's a nice blue sky up there. Rain is forecast for later though.

It's been a chilly, dull and very windy day, 9C/48F. I don't think I'll be venturing far this weekend, it looks like the island is going to get battered, with coastal flooding expected.

Hmmm, at the moment it looks like the north-west is in for a nasty spell in a couple of weeks, I hope the weather patterns change before it reaches us.
