        Just got back in from class.

        I passed:yes::dbgrtmb:

        I love our new club. In any other situation I'd have been really embarrassed. It was all very formal. I wont go into details but it involved a formal ritual in front of the entire class, as my white belt was ceremonially replaced with an orange one:) I say in any other circumstances it would have been embarrassing. Not in our club, because everyone, bar none, is just totally supportive of each other, like one big family.

        Rewind a bit to just before the class started, remember (above) I said I accidentally hurt someone that was holding the board when I had to break it? Well I sought him out, and had a brief chat. I apologised for my misjudgement that resulted in him being hurt. He was cool about it, as I thought he would (we all know the risks of the sport), but I'm a stickler for not assuming, so I thought it best if I make sure he knows that I felt bad that he'd got hurt, sort of at least that I was not just thinking of myself sort of. He was cool about it, and thankfully he wasn't really hurt. It was just a bit of superficial bruising.

                  In an interesting surprise twist, our little CL1.1 got called up to the front of the class today, and totally unexpected, he got his first promotion. He was buzzing, and I was and am so proud of him. He's still one grade behind me because he didn't do the formal test, but master's discretion, he decided CL1.1 has consistently worked hard and can demonstrate all his moves, so he got promoted one step up. Still on white belt, but with a stripe now, which signifies that he's been singled out as beyond beginner and ready to test for the next belt.

                      Thought I'd post a little update on here, shamelessly because I'm proud of my son and my missus.

                      Wife joined up back in February, so now it's nearly my full family thing. CL1.2 is still too little so he goes to his grandma's while the rest of us go to training, but he has seen what we do (he came to summer camp with us and also watched a few of the kids classes) and he is eager to join "kick" as he calls it.

                      Today, wife, 1.1 and I did our pre-test for our next belts. This basically involves being asked to repeatedly demonstrate a range ofmoves and combinations, and it is very, very physically hard work. We all got our paperwork which means we've been judged worthy to go before the panel and hopefully get our next belts. I'm quite pleased with myself, but I'm particularly pleased with and for 1.1, because the test he's going for is particularly difficult, and wife because by doing today's test she shows that she is serious about it (it will be her second test, but it's the first one that involves slightly more than the very basics).

                          Yep. Got a few aches and pains most of the time. Different ones at different times. Things like pulled muscles, minor sprains, the odd bruise here and there, but overall I feel fitter and more agile than I have in years. When friends and family remind me, half in jest, that I'm getting old, I tell them no, I'm getting younger.

                          Wife and 1.1 don't seem to get the knocks and sprains I get. I think I get them because I always push myself to my limit rather than pacing myself.

                          If I pass the next test, I get to start training in stick fighting. Like my childhood hero, king monkey :)

                            I've done Tae Kwon Do for a couple of years, but had to give it up last month. I broke my ankle back when I was a white belt and it's never been right since. As I move up the grades, it's becoming more and more painful to complete the moves required. Shame as I really enjoyed it and it was a great way of keeping fit.

                            Have you told your instructor? I thought it was the end of the road for me when I developed arthritis in my foot, but our teacher said I could adapt my techniques to work for me.
