Roses drying out

Hi guys.

I may have added to much fertilizer to one of my rose plants. I notice that some of the roses on that plant have a sticky substance on them and, the leaves are drying out. The soil is damp so that's not a problem. Can any one help please?

 

Roses shouldn't be fed during the winter months and usually fertiliser is stopped after a last feed in July, allowing the plant to rest over winter. I'm not sure what you mean by leaves drying out or the sticky substance. Photo's would help please. I think the leaves are probably dying off and will drop, producing new ones next spring.

 

I agree with Sheal with the leaves dying off naturally, some of mine have started now. However the sticky distance could be a sign of a pest such as whitefly. Have you tried giving them a spray. I use diluted washing up liquid.

South Africa and looking on the internet your temperature is around 20 to 25C at the moment.

As Anthony has said the sticky substance is possibly caused by aphids and can be controlled as he said.....

It could well be these that are damaging the leaves. Check the leaves on both sides.
