So, in the Parliamentary Vote on airstrikes in Syria has been passed, but, my comment ( I don't want to comment on the airstrikes themselves ), is, with almost 70 Labour MP's voting with the Government is this the start of the end the road for Jeremy Corbyn ? ? ?

Yep....I think so. Particularly as I've just watched Hilary Benn's speech in the Commons. Now there's a leader in waiting!

With respect, it was all emotionally driven hot air with absolutely no substance.

I agree we have to fight IS, but how? Cameron's strategy seems to be to simply drop more bombs and hope for the best. This is the strategy that Benn was encouraging others to support with his emotional blackmail speech.

The US is there already, along with Russia and France and others. Does Cameron and the emotional Mr Benn think that these nations lack air power? Are US pilots flying dilapidated biplanes from which they throw their ammo of rotten fruit? Are they all praying from Cameron to send a real air force to save them? I doubt it.

I'm in favour of Britain fighting IS. I just wish someone would actually come up with a plan that might work instead of simply begging for the chance to show off.

And I wonder if Mr Benn has used his emotional blackmail skills to try to find some common ground with Russia on this issue? I doubt it. Has he used his speaking skills to fire up good Muslims (the vast majority) to unite with us against a common foe, instead of the free for all that is currently happening? Again, I doubt it.

Depends, if we win the war straight away then yes, but if we have started something that is going to turn out rearly bad then may be no,

For the majority of my life, I have been a Labour voter and supporter, however in recent years I find myself with no party to support. Ed Milliband was never going to be PM as long as each of us had a hole in our backside, and I'm afraid that Mr Corbyn is in the same position. His party members were diametrically opposed before they even got to a vote of this magnitude - - now, whilst I accept that not everyone is going to agree all of the time, the rift in the Labour party at the moment is just too large, and Jeremy Corbyn does not have the support nor the skills to bring his party together.

The sad truth of the matter is that Labour are unelectable, and they will remain so for as long as they are so fractured, and are not offering any solutions that are remotely near the desires of the people of this country.

Hilary Benn's speech was a bit of a belter to be fair, and whilst I agree fully that it was impassioned, however one speech alone is not enough.

Do I believe that we should be taking action in Syria - yes, absolutely; the time has now come where we simply cannot sit back and wait for the next atrocity to happen. However, I am also of the mind that we are not doing enough - - something like 8 planes I believe? Pathetic, and an utter embarrassment.

Can you imagine what Hitler would have done if he found out we were sending only 8 planes into the fray? He would have laughed so much his feet would be wet.

When Britain stood up to hitler, we fought on every front, on every level, be it planes dropping bombs, or soldiers on the ground, or the 'propaganda machine' working to boost morale at home while breaking it among the enemy. There was strategy. We knew what ground had to be held, what had to be taken, and what we could lose temporarily.

When Mr Benn likened the current call to arms with that of world war two, I'm not sure if he was insulting or just naive. If it was the same deal as world war two, we'd be throwing everything we have at the enemy, both militarily, and politically in terms of forging strong alliances, instead of sending half a dozen or so planes while constantly trying to alienate the enemy of our enemy (Russia) and supporting the friend of our enemy (Turkey) in their decision to shoot at the one credible force that could kick our enemy's behind, and ours if they had to.

Does David Cameron still want to bomb the Syrian Government?

Now he's got the backing of a substantial proportion of Labour MPs, would it help if he also won a vote to also bomb them, as he previously wanted to?

Absolutely spot on, there should be so much more going on rather than just air strikes.

Trouble is, we don't have an awful lot less to throw at the enemy, do we? Short on aircraft carriers, even shorter of aircraft themselves, and I would hazard a guess that much of our other military equipment has been reduced in the name of cost - lets face facts, if Russia decided to, they could kick our backside from here to Kingdom come.

I dont think this is the last thing that there will be disagreement over within the Labour party.
So I tend to think the Corbyn approach to most things is bound to come unstuck in the future.

Other than that, I'm wondering what all the fuss has been about, apparently we have been bombing IS in Afghanistan for quite some time and as IS dont respect borders it just seems sensible to bomb them in Syria.

All the fuss seems to be about bombing Syria?????

We are not bombing Syria as such, that idea was thrown out last time, thank god, we are bombing IS, that just happen to be in Syria and are enemies of the Syrian government.

Or maybe that is the problem most of the opposition to the bombing have, they would prefer us to be bombing Asad's forces?
Now that would be actually starting a War.

That was David Cameron who wanted to bomb them, not the opposition (Ed Milliband leader of opposition at the time who stuffed that idea).

When I said opposition I meant those individuals opposing the bombing, not the Labour party as such.

Yes I know Cameron wanted to bomb Asad earlier, and I was definitely against that one, this one, to me makes no difference, as its against IS, who we are bombing already

                    Hi Clueless,
I've read and reread your post and I don't think you've understood the meaning of this thread.

There's just no link between your post and this thread. There's no mention of Jeremy Corbyn and his future at all, which is the whole essence of why I placed this thread in the first place.
