I have a brick drive and there are roundish white marks on it, if I power wash it, that will remove them, but as the saying goes, they'll soon be back.

Is there any thing I could put on them to stop them coming back

Although your description makes it sound very much like efflorescence the picture is not typical. It looks more like lichen but it would need a much closer look - preferably by someone who can tell the difference. If it is lichen then a bleach solution is the best bet as it's not always good to use acid (vinegar) because of possible staining.

Or try 'wet and forget' or similar - this prevents fungal and other regrowth.

I have the same markings on my drive . Pretty sure its lichen . As Shiney said a cheap Asda bleach solution , then jet wash an hour later should do it . It's on the list off to-do jobs for me , but a long way down the list at the moment .
A really good report on Lichen removal on Pavingexpert , worth a read..

Thanks chaps for getting back to me

I have use bleach solution it does not touch it plus giving a good brushing about an hour after, earlier in the year I have sprayed with Solium Chorate to kill the weeds that grow between the bricks, some must have got on the white mark but it are still there. I have not tried vinegar I might try a little in one of the corners.

Here is a close up of one brick.

              Hi Harry

I did not think there was any point until at least 2 days no rain as it would wash the vinegar away

I managed two days without rain, the vinegar did nothing to kill the growth ?
