Whilst I was working in the garden yesterday there were thousands of starlings doing aerobatics overhead. They kept splitting into two groups and then reforming as one.

I have a very pretty family of cardinals that visit every morning and evening. When I get a better point and snap unit, I'll try to capture some pictures. I know they are a common bird but the males are breathtaking..:)

How nice Lori to have Cardinals visit your garden. If we had one of those land in this country then Twitchers from all over the country would descend on that little bird with their monster cameras and lenses to try and get photos and a tick for their list:snork:

Yes @shiney although I never saw any on my trips to Canada and the US.:frown:

@Jiffy, there have been Fieldfares (and Redwings) around here since early October but only in small flocks of up to 20, I imagine there must be a scarcity of food on the continent to need to come here in the numbers you have seen.

At first i thought it was starling, so got out the feild glasses and they were Field fares, the one thing that has helped is that the apple trees that are around have lots of apples as no one has pick them, we do have one field fare in the garden that is looking after his/her crabapple tree no one can tough that tree :snork:, sorry Black Birds

I noticed walking down the track to the Middlebere hide yesterday (1/4 mile) that all the Rowans are now stripped bare, not surprised as there have been Redwings, Fieldfares, Mistle Thrushes, Song Thrushes, Blackbirds and Bullfinches there for the last two months. There will be nothing left for any Waxwings should any arrive down here!

@shiney, the first one (I think) is the Red Crested Cardinal introduced to Hawaii from Brazil, the other is the Red Cardinal introduced from the US.

They were both quite busy at the picnic areas by the beaches. Just like we get the sparrows and finches around picnic areas. They were quite happy to eat from your hand :blue thumb:
