Hi, I planted two pink pampas grass plants last year. They appear to be healthy enough and have grown a few inches.
I'm just wondering how long I should be prepared to wait for them to grow into decent plants.
Or any tips on making them grow a bit faster.

    Thank you
    Dean

I planted my pink pampus grass in September last year it was like a 9cm pot plant and was tiny it is now half way up the fence and fairly large.

I have done nothing to it tbh other than give it a trim in spring because it was quite flat as the cats kept sitting on it. Tbh they have given it more attention than me they play with it. Its their favourite toy

I cant find a pic of when first planted but this is it last october

And this is it this september

I heard that if you planted a Pampas in the middle of the front lawn back in the 70's it was a sign that you & the Mrs were Swingers :)

I'd give the Pampas a fortnightly feed, Dean, of a Nitrogen fertiliser at the start of Spring.:dunno::snork:

Blimey, I'm really jealous of that one above, well done Dips. I planted a couple in my garden 2 summers ago and they look healthy but haven't grown at all really, nothing to notice they are still no more than 10" tall?????.
Thank you Armandii I'll definitely give that a go.
Do you think it would pay me to dig it out and make a much bigger hole filled with compost?

I dont know i didnt even add any compost to the hole for mine. I probably should have done.

What type of soil do you have and what aspect is your garden? Is the pampas grass in sun or shade?

If it helps for comparison mine is in sandy soil and a south facing garden and in full sun.

Also it was planted in a new flower bed where i had removed some lawn. I never added any enrichment to the soil. Probably should have done again tbh

Well, to be honest, Dean, we haven't got an idea of what your garden soil is like [Clay, sandy, stony, loamy etc], what direction the garden faces [East, West, South, North], is it shady etc? So if you can give the GC Gang an idea of that, we should be able to get an idea of what advise we can give.:coffee::snork:

Both of them are in full sun and I think the soil is quite clayish. I'll post a picture when I get a chance

I was given one 2 years ago but didnt have room for it so it kinda got dumped over the fence into heavy shade. It lived despite total neglect and produced some fluffy flower heads.
Im thinking of bringing it back into the garden. My question is when is it good to lift and is it simple to half it , by teasing apart or chopping it in half ? Thanks.

Hi Dean, if the drainage is not so good then that might not be helping, but Pampas are a tough plant and usually thrive in most conditions. I would try to improve the soil if possible and then give it that Nitrogen Fertiliser feed in Spring.
