A bonus piece of useless information for the weekend :heehee:

Mrs Felicia Hemans 1793-1835 has often had her rhymes plagiarised, mainly “The boy stood on the burning deck …..” from her poem ‘Casabianca’. (Not a lot of people know that! :))

But Noel Coward (1899-1973) changed her lines of the poem ‘The Homes of England’ From ...
“The stately homes of England, How beautiful they stand! Amidst their tall ancestral trees, O’er all the pleasant land.”
To... “The stately Homes of England, How beautiful they stand, to prove the upper classes have still the upper hand.”

    And a further bonus :snork:
Noel Coward sitting on his front lawn at his house 'Firefly' and admiring the view

    • It is said that there are 40,000 bodies buried at the parish church in Haworth.

Charlie Chaplin also wrote" This is my song ", featured in the film " A countess from Hong Kong " as an instrumental. It was recorded but also disliked by Petula Clark. She said that the lyrics were too old fashioned. However it gave her her second and last ( after Sailor ) number one.

India is the country with the largest English speaking population (will probably be exceeded by China in the next ten years!).

An acre was defined in the Middle Ages, being the amount of land that could be ploughed in one day with a yoke of oxen.

A toilet seat that will not stay raised is called a bijuna. Most bijunas were created in the olden days by attaching a tacky fluffy cover which matched the urine catching mat....and maybe some dick dust too:eeew:
