I've pulled a muscle, properly. It's been bad all week, started to recover a bit, then I ignored it while training today until it made itself known good and proper. And not just to me. It made itself known to our instructor, who stopped the class while he told me off for ignoring an injury.

Anyway, right now it knacks. My whole right quadricep (front of leg, knee to pelvis) is in spasm. I've treat it with rosemary oil and ibuprofen, to no effect. I need to be fine by Friday. Anyone know any magic healing herbs or anything?

            @clueless1

Mrs Shiney says that the main thing to do is rest :nonofinger:

Go to the health shop and buy some Rescue Remedy, put 3 drops in a bottle of water and sip often. Also get some homoeopathic Arnica, Rhus Tox and Ruta Grav. tablets and take them according to the instructions. The highest potency you can buy over the counter is 30. Arnica is for the trauma, Rhus Tox is for the tendons and Ruta is for the ligaments which have been damaged. I will send you my special injury blend today. It will contain all the remedies listed plus Mag. Phos for muscle spasm. Dosage: 1 pill in a half litre bottle of water with the 3 drops Rescue Remedy and sip frequently - even every 5 minutes!! Meanwhile, also get some virgin organic coconut oil and g e n t l y massage into the area so that all the oil disappears. Coconut oil is an anti inflammatory and will help heal quicker. In view of the imminent competition, you may want to also apply Arnica gel or Arnica cream to the area twice a day. But above all, you must REST THE MUSCLE to enable it to heal. In the grand order of your life, one competition can be left to the others to compete in...... LISTEN TO YOUR BODY...... Please PM with your address and my Injury Blend will be in the post today. (Mrs. Shiney)

I would say keep it elevated and ice it and rest and continue to take anti inflammatories

Magnesium can help with muscles so maybe a bath in epsom salts too

                Thanks all, especially Mrs Shiney:)

It doesn't seem to hurt today, as long as I don't try anything more fancy than slow walking. It feels more stiff than anything. Not like normal muscle fatigue stiff, more like a subtle reminder not to push it kind of stiff.

You are young and have a wife along with two lovely kids,
It does not matter HOW IMPORTANT FRIDAY is (I guess it is sport related) but you must stop
think and rest What appears to be a minor injury to some young man, if not rested and healed properly, can end up to haunt you forever when at fifty you have to use crutches to get about, all because of a "slight torn muscle" when you were fit

This appears rude, it is not in anyway meant to be, I just want you to think, nothing is more important to you when you are older than good health

Ibuprofen is for control of swelling. If you are using it, don't let the temporary relief fool you. Now me, I hate cold packs. I use heat. Keep going in moderation. Don't try to push but don't coddle either.

Still a little stiff from lifting a couple hundred pound of machinery the other day and am going to use my heating pad tonight. Every person is different. It was awkward stuff otherwise I might have been okay.

                      Hi all :)

Today my leg is much better, but still not solid. Although I have been to a party and had a boogie without my leg complaining.

As for Friday, I was made to realise something tonight. It seems I have nothing to prove. The only person that was questioning my effort and determination was me. Of course Istill need to push myself to push my own limits, but not at the expense of my health.

I'll be taking it easy on Friday, and at the slightest hint of any warning pains, I'll stop.

Well, as an added comment, Ladies, do not let your man try to convince you that touching your toes to the headboard will keep you lithe...really, how can that be good trying to also twist to see the telly?

I forgot to update this thread. I got through last Friday's event. I took paracetamol half an hour before, and applied loads of ibuprofen to the injured muscle.

I've paid the price. My leg is still defective now, and will probably give me bother for another couple of weeks, but there's no training for almost two weeks now, so as long as I let it recover instead of trying to practice, I reckon I'll be fine. The next big thing is not for two months. It should be right by then if I apply common sense.

I do hope yoĆ¹ lay off for awhile. You're not getting any reward other than pain and possible long term disability.

Take it easy and don't be tempted to "push" yourself anymore.

I'm very interested to know what this instructor of yours has to say about your situation.

is this person offering advice or suggesting a different style of exercise?

He's tried offering tactful advice, and when that hasn't worked he's told me off in front of the whole class more than once. He despairs at my pig headedness. He gets so frustrated that I try to power through pain and injury. But he also respects my determination.

Other guest instructors have also told me to behave. There all good people. In fact some of the best people I've ever met and I have theutmost respect for them. They encourage people to push themselves to their own individual limit, but never beyond. They make jokes about the tedious paperwork they have to do if someone has the audacity to die in their class (which as far as I know has never happened) but it's clear to see that they actually care about every single individual that walks through the door.

When I smashed a foot a few months ago, doctors said it would be a couple of months before I train again, and even then it would be limited intensity. When I turned up for class just a couple of weeks later, I had to make lots of promises before my instructor would even allow me to try to train.

I'm a worrying pain in the neck for them.
