Car dehumidifier

My old motor gets a bit foggy and a bit of condensation on the glass during the wintertime. Don't want to get anything fancy or expensive as it's not a big problem, but wondering if anyone had tried those silica jel bags that are sold for the purpose? Any good?

The best thing for condensation is air conditioning GG . Presume your old girl does n't have this ? A couple off things you can do is first on our rare nice sunny blue sky winter days leave all your doors and boot lid open for a couple of hours to air the car. Presuming it is safe to do so where you park it ?
You can buy window strips that catch the condeanstion ,used these prior to double glazing. Also there are cordless or plug in dehumidifiers for cars not sure how expensive these are or how effective though ?

Dont think you can odds it without air con.
I had a leak on the rear window in a car a few years ago. it took me ages to work out why it was always so damp in the car and the windows misted up.

Adding heat on its own doesn't really solve the problem, it can make it worse, if you dont use ventilation at the same time.

 

Fill the ashtrays full of salt and then just stub your cigarettes out on the dashboard, that's what I do whenever I borrow a car

A hair dryer won't do that much . You need something that actually removes water from the air.
These large silica bags may do the trick ? or rechargeable ones from Amazon ?

Tip in local mag, fill a knee length stocking with new cat litter, seal and lay on dashboard for a couple of days

I have a similar problem and where practical I leave a window open by few mm. This allows ventilation and while not solving the problem completely certainly helps.

@Jack McHammocklashing - I had heard of that but sadly don't have a cat or knee length stocking.
@Sheal your link is what I referred to in my first post, same idea as a litter/sock affair but it is reusable (few minutes in microwave) so I thought I'd give this a go
