      Just to prove that I 'can' cook :) This was Christmas dinner, Christmas and Boxing day desserts, and Boxing day dinner - Sirloin, pep sauce, onion rings, mushrooms, chips, and an egg :)

          Later I finished a chunky chicken and mushroom soup for supper :blue thumb: made from Christmas days left over chicken.

            your right, cooking Christmas Dinner is, just a Sunday meal, but a little bigger. And yes planning is the trick. Our first big dinner is Thanksgiving. Hosted one a few years ago for 16 of my family (well his ungrateful family) (never again). Anyway. I had put out all the "empty" serving bowls in the table with little posties on them saying what would go into what bowl as it was ready. Stupid in-laws decided to take them off, came out of the kitchen and saw them all removed. Like are you so stupid. Have to find you the menu I had for them, it was lots of good starters, and side dishes and couple desserts. Made my first stuffed Turkey when I was 15 years old, so that is (not enough fingers to count--long ago) so got that down pat, with no issues.

            My first set of in-laws, the mother in law was perfect with her entertainment, learned so much, she was effortless with things being all done on time, and the table perfect sight to behold. My second mother-in-law, did not seem to get, "you don't have people over at the time you "just" put the 20 lb turkey in the oven, and have them sitting there looking at each other for 6 hours." And then she served canned green beans, and stove top stuffing (not even real in the bird stuffing) or yes and pillsbury dough boy rolls. Oh yes, and the pumpkin pie not done. The next Thanksgiving, I offered to bring just about everything, and asked her when are you going to put the Turkey in the oven. Its like how old are you women, do you not get this. Her daughter is the same, she actually told me about 3 years ago, she never made a pie. I am like "really". what is with that. (said that in my head). She also did not get that the 15 lb turkey takes many hours. Whatever.

              Had a huge Xmas Day meal of 'toad in the hole' made with Quorn sausages, plus slices of Quorn Family Roast (a sort of 'chicken' substitute, and I can still remember exactly what meat tastes like almost 30 years after last eating it), roast potatoes, balls of stuffing mix, peas and Savoy cabbage, with almost a mug full of veggie gravy (Morrisons veggie gravy doesn't cause any 'high winds' problems like some others, so we stocked up when our local store inadvertently reduced to 9p a whole load of long expiry date tubs together with a few short expiry dates.

              And then I had seconds consisting of everything all over again apart from the TITH. It's only a strictly once a year 'pig out' then back to healthy eating and sensible portions.

              Boxing Day back to more healthy eating consisting of Salmon salad.

              Today, sandwiches to fuel our Craghoppers glitch checking sizes trip.

                As i said before i really dont like roast dinners so dont really enjoy xmas dinner

                But what i really love is cold leftovers and bubble and squeak so boxing day is the best day for eating ever. Cold stuffing is just lovely.

                  I do not like "hot ham' never had. Can eat a cold ham sandwich. What I figured out, the part of the "hot ham" I don't like is for some reason the warm temp. makes the brine texture of the meat more apparent and its that part I don't like.

                    I used to have 2 plates at xmas, one for meat other for veg.
                    Nowadays I can manage one plate and that takes ages, I get so out of breath eating anything at all. If I breath in during eating I get food in my wind pipe making me choke and cough so annoying.

                      I really enjoyed our Christmas dinner, cold table , buffet nibbles, cheeseboard, cake & all the other yummy things we've scoffed! BUT it's now time to go back to sensible eating! My jeans are tight & my tummy feels very full! Last night I gave dinner a miss & I've not eaten much today! Tomorrow night we have a party to go to so that will be our last pig out! :dbgrtmb:

                        Tonight we are using up the last of the 5 bird roast and pulled pork, I have a large
                        pot of Sweet and sour bubbling, together with rice and carrots. After that if there
                        is any left, I will be box it up and freeze it. :stirpot:

                          If you have any bird left, I have made Turkey pot pie out of it, and froze that. Easy then pop in oven in a couple months.

                          We've just had our second Christmas dinner of the year, this time done by I.

                          Nothing fancy, just roast beef, roasties, roast honey glazed parsnips, sprouts and carrots with a trifle for afters.

                          I didn't make mash, and catering for 9 of us there wasn't much left over, so no bubble and squeak for supper unfortunately.

                          Any left overs will go in my special fried rice for tea tomorrow.

                            Not getting much in the way of good food at the moment (since yesterday afternoon) as we have almost no water. Hopefully the plumber will turn up today to fix the leak. Meanwhile no shower, no toilet etc. :doh:
