Roasting a Standing Pork roast, in about 2 hours will put in the drained rinsed sauerkraut and turn it in to the juices for the next hour so then the kraut will caramelize by end of the hour. Then making mashed potatoes. And that is traditional New Year’s Day dinner. Debating the veggie. Have a few choices.

Fresh fruit or a home made compote.

Cooking apples chopped into small chunks, a touch of water (can use apple or orange juice), small amount of dried mixed fruit (or raisins etc.) and a touch of mixed spice. In a saucepan and cook slowly. It should produce it's own juice so don't put much liquid in the pan - just enough to stop it sticking.

If you really feel that you can't have it without cream then use coconut milk instead. Buy a tin of coconut milk that says in the ingredients '75% coconut'. The 25% is water and is similar to what you get inside the coconut but the 75% will be just like very thick double cream. It floats on top of the water and is fairly solid.

On the tin it may say 'shake well before use' but that's if you're using it as a liquid. We use it by just scooping out the solid part with a spoon and putting it into a cream jug. Guests love it. We also use it, shaken, in cooking for making cream soups and, of course, Thai curries (making one today). Our favourite make is 'Pride'. I think that Tesco sells it at something under £1 a can (we buy it by the case load at the Asian wholesalers).

That is why I do the job I do. A lot of making window treatments is the ironing. I have a nice big boiler system and also a smaller one that only hold a liter of water. Lots of steam. Glad to know there is someone else that enjoys ironing!:dbgrtmb:

Get MyFitnessPal on your phone and start recording all your food, drink and exercise. It's a real eye opener. Not because it scares you off anything, but it helps you see just how easy it is to eat good food without smashing your calorie budget.

I suspended my healthy eating effort over Christmas because there was just too much chocolate, wine and beer on offer, but prior to my diet break I was easily staying within my calorie goal without ever feeling like I wasmissing out on anything.

A typical breakfast for me included grilled bacon and a banana for breakfast, a massive portion of hearty soup for lunch, a proper meal at dinner. Then at supper time I'd check my calorie balance and see that I had enoughfor a sizeable portion of my favourite dark chocolate. You can also see the nutrition breakdown of what you've had. The app sets, among other things, a protein goal. If I found I was short on protein that day, I'd fix it with boiled eggs or tuna.

My favourite dessert is tiramisu. You'd definitely think that was banned, but typically not. In a typical day, my calorie allowance allowed for it.

I found as I went along, the easiest way to destroy the calorie budget was to eat anything made of wheat, so bread, pasta, pastry, cakes, all out. But if you like your creamy desserts, they tend to be high in protein and satisfy your hunger, so they're in.

Track your exercise too. I was surprised to learn that my half hour lunchtime stroll clocks up about 200 calories.

But all that presupposes that you do exercise! :blue thumb: I knew I was doing something wrong.

When I answered the few questions when setting mine up, I told it my weight, height, age and gender, and told it I do no exercise, and want to lose 1lb per week. It came up with a calorie goal of 1760 per day, which with a bit of thought, is easy to stick to even without exercise. Adding exercise gives you some calories back, so then you can eat even more. I use the calories earned through martial arts training to cover my beer and crisps at the weekends.

Years ago I got pretty pudgy. Did that twice and to drop those extra pounds, I simply cut my caloric intake. 1 lb = 3,500 calories. I reduced my intake and lost 50 lbs. That's a lot of food I didn't eat!

Course back in the olden days we counted calories on our fingers when we didn't have an abacus handy:heehee:

I find with calorie counting i put on more weight because i eat more because im thinking about food all the time because im tracking calories

When normally day to day if im busy and doing stuff i can eat 800 calories and not be aware of how little i have eaten and another day eat 1500 etc

if food isnt on my mind i just eat when im hungry but calorie counting stuff i eat more than i normally would daily so just doesnt work for me

Even tried the myfitnesspal app and i put on weight lol
