Perhaps Ken has just honed his craft with years and years of practice.

Possibly, but bear in mind that these shows are pretty old now. I think Ken is 88 now. He made me laugh when he said that he had received a tax rebate :heehee:.

I watched a little of that Ken Dodd show and it made me chuckle, never been a admirer of him, maybe a sign of dementia catching up on me?

He was charged with tax evasion 27 years ago. The prosecutor was Brian Leveson (current Levenson enquiry). He was acquitted.

I think you know you're getting old when you decide you're getting old.

It's a subject I think about a lot, or have done for the past couple of years or so.

I'd think, I've had a couple of life threatening medical situations in the last few years, so I must be getting old. Then I'd remember that I had a few close calls when I was a kid, so it can't be that.

I also considered that I have far less imagination now than when I was a kid. Then I realise my imagination is going full tilt all the time.

Maybe it's fitness related? I was undeniably fitter when I was 18 than I am now, but when I was 18 I'd had 18 years of almost non stop activity. I had no car so had to walk or cycle everywhere, and in work I was at the bottom of the pecking order, so always running errands. Now I drive everywhere and sit at a desk all day at work, but over the last 18 months, I've been getting fit again, and aside from a few knocks and sprains, I feel fitter now than I was about 10 years ago.

I've considered many things that might be markers of 'getting old', and then found fault with every theory, until I came to the conclusion, you are old when you believe you are old, and you are young when you believe you are young. And I'm defying all laws of convention by getting younger as time passes.

Well said. :dbgrtmb: There's just a small caveat to that. I don't really think that I'm getting old but my body sometimes tries to argue with me. :old:

I was fitter when I was 70 than I am now but my mind is still insisting that I'm young. :)

Yes, but I can't let it get the better of me. So I have to slap it down every so often. :blue thumb:

When I was a teenager I trained in a number of martial arts, includingChinese kung fu. I stopped, and for years I was convinced I'd been ace at it. Then much more recently I started training in martial arts again, and for a while I was very frustrated that I could no longer do the kind of things I could do all those years ago. But then when I thought about it some more, I realised that I was never very good:)

I think we look back through rose tinted glasses. That's a good thing sometimes. It's nice that mostly the positive memories stick, and that we unwittingly exaggerate our past capabilities, but it's really badfor self esteem when we compare ourselves now to a hheavily sanitised and over glorified past self. It means were putting past self on a pedestal while degrading present self. It's not a fair comparison, and present self can never win.

I'm sure there comes a time when proper old age kicks in and we physically can't perform as well aswe once could. Is this old age? I don't know, because throughout every stage of our life we instinctively work with what we've got, playing to our strengths and working around our limitations. This is true from babies, whose only strength is the ability to scream when they need something, to teenagers that are physically fit but have a distinct lack of wisdom, to older people who have the experience needed to handle most of life's situations.

I reckon maybe old age sets in when we no longer have any strengths to play to, but even that can't be right, because sadly people can fade away while they're still theoretically in their prime.

Personally I feel like I am 10 years older than I am. If I feel like this around the 60 age mark, then I would be quite happy. Pre heart attack, I felt more 70, so maybe my age is reversing too :)
I miss my pussies though, and I think animals help your health.
