My leather jacket has had its day. The collar is split all along, the zip is bust, the quilted lining is ripped and has lost half its stuffing. The pockets are all gone, the shell is scuffed. It's dead.

The thing is though, it's not just any jacket. Over 20 years ago, it was THE Leather. This was my pulling jacket. This jacket won me ladies. I'd offer this jacket to ladies I'd met to wear as we travelled from one bar to the next, or to my pad. This jacket carried my emergency kit, consisting of a razor, a sample size pack of aftershave, ten regal king size and a lighter, a pack of protection, and spare socks and undies. This is also the jacket I was wearing when my best mate dared me to climb the beacon poll (about 30 foot). It's the jacket I was wearing when I had to break up a fight between some crazy girl and my even crazier ex. It's the jacket I put round the fit 21 year old that is now my wife.

So simply binning it is not an option. So how do I give it the send off it deserves?

Is there a sizable piece of leather left? If so find someone who is really good at sewing, pick a design and get it cut and sewn onto the back of your new one.

It sounds the perfect jacket to be worn for gardening. :blue thumb: Just a little bit of stitching up is needed.

Although mine is not made of leather you seem to have described it quite well. :)

Make it into a purse, bag or belt, scraps can be added to glove palms or tool handles to improve grip or could be made into cushion covers ;)

Cremation I think Clueless and a toast while it's on its way. I think it should contain all those things that were carried in it during your 'pulling' years too, with the exception of the ladies and your wife of course. :)

You can't possibly throw it out or burn it! I think you should wear it in the garden until it's totally had it! Then you could burn it & scatter the ashes around the garden in a similar way you scattered your.......self in your younger days! :heehee:

My jacket is only made of ordinary material and has been falling apart for years (just like me ) but I'm still wearing it in the garden. One of the advantages si that you don't need to worry about it getting dirty or damaged. :blue thumb:

Trouble is, I was using it for the garden, and its been in our outhouse for months. I haven't inspected it yet, but as I've been clearing the room ready to make into a gym, I've descovered that it's close to the epicentre of my mouse problem.
