Dug this up and have forgotten what they are or even that I had planted them there in the first place.

The cluster of tubers certainly look like Hemerorcallis but the leaves look like Iris foetidissima

Too early for the Hemerocallis foliage to be that advanced surely?

Yes, it's a bit puzzling. The leaves look as though they may be old ones that haven't died back. If they are I. f. it's likely that the seeds would still have been around.

Did you see any bright red seeds when you dug it up? Of course, the birds could have taken them but there would normally be some of the open seed pods around.

Well to make matters more complicated these are growing very close to where I dug that clump up. I can't remember what these are either

I divided them up and stuck them into individual pots as soon as I've dug them up. They just need labelling.

If you're referring to my photo, they're the Iris foetidissima :blue thumb:

If they were left out of the ground all winter they would still be fine.

I agree unless they're in flooded then frozen ground - which seems to be the prospect for a lot of the country.

My I.foetidissima photos - do they look familiar? A lot of people think that it is a bit of a weed but I really like it. Best of all it self seeds around and the resulting seedlings can vary quite a lot as the photos show.

I don't think it's Iris but possibly Day Lilies.

The tubers are deffo Hemerocallis but I'll put a penny to a pound that the leaves in the photo are I.foetidissima - the giveaway is the way they are dying back.
