          Wouldn't that be a bill hook? At least that's what I was taught to use for the hedgerow. It's a bit like a machete, but the blade is hooked at the end.

            The medieval billhook used for hedging , also was used and developed into a weapon. Remember seeing them in the Tower of London when I was a kid , and thinking I really would not want someone having a poke at me with it !
