People who were passengers in my car until they got out, who thenslam the door without first checking that the seat belt buckle is out of the way. Then, when it doesn't shut (because they've trapped the seat belt), instead of wondering 'oh, why didn't it shut? I must check for obstructions', they think 'it didn't work that time, so I'll do exactly the same again'.

Oh, and another. People who clutter the house when I've been trying to de-clutter.

And people, usually women, who make digs at me for being the lazy husband, when in fact it's me that is trying to get the house in order while the 'hard working missus' thinks it ok to fill the sofa with duvets and pillows just because one of the kids has a sniffle, or leave stuff out on the kitchen worksurface just because she's 'going to use it later'.

Drivers who go into 'panic mode' at the merest sight of a flashing blue light in the distance, then overreact and stop immediately.

Doesn't matter that they're in the middle of a busy junction or halfway round a roundabout, oh no. There's an emergency vehicle half a mile away, so I must instantly stop right here.

It happened to me a couple of evenings ago, on a large and almost deserted roundabout on the edge of town. I had to break quite sharply when the twit in front of me spotted a police car way off in the distance approaching the roundabout from the left, and then stopped dead just as I was entering the roundabout behind them. There was no possible way that either of us would have obstructed the police car by continuing, it was a large two lane roundabout with virtually no other traffic present and easy access from all directions.

By all means slow down or pull over if necessary, but often the best course of action is to keep moving, albeit with one eye on the approaching emergency vehicle until you are sure of its intentions. Keeping the traffic moving, as opposed to stopping in a completely inappropriate place and blocking the flow of traffic, is surely more beneficial to all concerned.

If it annoys you ... have a guess at how much it annoys the driver of the emergency vehicle ;)

And the drivers of large HGV which are hauling wide and long loads which i've done many times, some times people think that something 20 foot wide 60 foot long will fit through a 10 foot gap:yikes:

It probably would. Except the gap might not still be 10ft afterwards.

Don't you just love the way they sit in their wee box, looking at the end of their bonnet and then looking quizzically at you as if to say "I can't see why you can't fit??"

We had one years ago - road blocked by cars parked, illegally, around the area of a mosque - they were all parked half-on and half-off the pavement; this had happened weeks and weeks on a run apparently, and the local police got utterly fed up of getting called out because buses and coaches were getting stuck.

Anyway, this particular night, our driver in a Leyland National that had wheel studs that stuck out a bit beyond the body line; copper arrived and said to the driver "OK son, bring it through" and waved him on.... the driver protested that he wasn't going to fit, but the copper insisted he didn't care, and continued to direct him into the area where the cars were parked on either side. As the bus went through, the wheel studs carved lovely gouges into the doors and wings of all the illegally parked cars; the copper then proceeded to tell the driver to get on his way and then apparently waited for all the car owners to reappear.

Amazingly, we never got a single insurance claim for any of those cars, and even more amazingly we never had the illegal parking problem there ever again - - wonder why? :snorky:

I have learned, since living here, that one or two of the drivers of those 20x60 vehicles think they can fit through a 10' gap!

One silly sausage made it as far as our "corner shop" (which just happens to be at a X road) before realising they were never going to make it through. Mind you, held up the traffic for quite a time while it manoeuvred up each leg of the cross road, forwards and backwards a few times, before finally getting back on track - a wide enough track this time :heehee:
