Throwing Stick for Dogs Ban !

Well they are not going to ban it , I just hyped up the article above a bit . As long as you select the stick with some care , no splinters or sharp edges etc , it must be safe.
Our last Cocker , Maya loved chasing for sticks and jumping in the stream or canal for them. Now Molly if you throw a stick for her , she looks at you as if to say "you go an get it then !"
Now can you get happier than this dog with a stick !

 

My dogs always used to chose the stick themselves then thow them at you, or put it at your feet and pester until you threw it.
Both the last two preferred a stick to a ball, and would only chase a ball a couple of times before leaving me to go get it.

 

Actually, there is something in that report. Where I lived previously, I would meet up with a woman who had a number of dogs.
One morning, one of her dogs raced off (no problem in the woods) and returned a little while later with a stick stuck rigid across the width of its mouth and up into the palate. It was jammed solid!
A trip to the vet and a flex of her credit card did the trick, but, that dog was sooooooo stressed in the meantime, it was heart breaking.

I can see why they want to ban them, but no one will be getting £250 from you been framed

 

and that would be only a small percentage of the vets bill to repair the potential damage

 

Seems such an nanny state issue but at the same time a wooden splinter swallowed + bad luck = perforated gut = £1000 vet operation or death to doggy.

 

Well, it's not an actual ban ... but, it's good to get the information out there.
Common sense to one man could be a huge bill/regret to another

 

Never did encourage my GSD to deal with sticks, did not like if they chewed them and it splintered in their mouths, gums etc. and once, one got one wedged in its mouth, thank goodness we could get it out. So used other play items for them when outdoors.

 

Chucking some sticks could also injure owners, bystanders, etc.
