Has anyone else been watching this? For those who haven't, basically a drama based around all of Dickens main characters.

I was fascinated by the concept when I first read about it and wasn't too sure how it could all meld together.

But: I'm loving it! It makes me chuckle (some parts make me cringe, but I accept artistic license).

It has certain "Boo! Hiss! He's behind you!!" aspects to it too, which only seems to add interest (for me).

And, despite everything, I'm still not certain how it's going to end. :dunno:

Love every episode but wish that it was on for an hour Instead of just half an hour, but so nice to see so many characters intertwined in this masterpiece.

Also @M have you been watching another great Andrew Davis masterpiece production starring inspector Bucket and that is War and Peace on Sunday evenings plus we are watching Jericho on a Friday evening and Mr Selfridge and are waiting for a Happy Valley to start again plus Poldark and I think a new series of Last Tango in Halifax is going to be coming around again:yahoo:

Only problem is we spend so much time trying to sort out which other programmes the actors have starred in that we soon start to lose the plot:snork:

Don't know when we are going to find the time to fit the gardening in:biggrin:

I'm with you on all of those (except Poldark).
On the War & Peace front, I'm recording those but waiting for a W&P fest so I can view them all in one sitting (Go to work Mr "M" - volunteer for overtime! No, volunteer as a volunteer so I have a good stab at the TV! :wallbanging: )
Jericho puts me in mind of a Western but with a Yorkshire accent :roflol: - but, I'm enjoying it (which I've only watched while I've been beavering away with my craft stuff).
As for LTIH - oh I do love that! Very pithy
Mr Selfridge has lost it's "edge", but I hang on for grim death :dunno:  Glad they have brought back Lady Mae - she's a force to be reckoned with :heehee: but I do dislike that he is such a weak character and ruled by what is in his trousers: so passé! :nonofinger: Yet, so in vogue :heehee:

Question: has there been a first series of Jericho? I feel like there is a back story I'm missing? :dunno:

@M I got it wrong as Jericho is on this evening after Dickensian and the lead female actress is Jenny? From Call the Midwife and no I haven't seen it before and as far as I know it is the first time round.Last Tango in Halifax was filmed up North as you say hence the accents and yes it is a bit like a western but in England as opposed to America.:snorky: I am reading the Yorkshire Shepherdess on my Kindle I was given at Xmas and they are really strong Yorkshire accents with their Yows(Ewes)

I like Mr Selfidge and it can't go on for too many series as the Dolly Sisters were the ruin of him after his wife died.I preferred The Paradise with Mr Moray and Denise (of Banished Fame) but as we no longer have them have stuck with Mr Selfidge:smile: Yes I like Lady Mae but couldn't stand the poison dwarf she was married to:snorky:

Never did take to Downton Abbey though:snork:

Oh *der!* Jenny from call the Midwife :doh: of course it is!!!
I've been wracking my brains trying to place her - thanks @Kandy :snorky:

And one of the men(will have to try and find his name)in War and Peace is the nutter who beat up Sarah Lancashire who played the police woman in Happy Valley so now every time I see him in W&P I just see him as the villain from Happy Valley.I so wish they would stop taking these Actors and putting them straight into another production with no time lapse as I see them as the characters they played in last year and there is too much overlapping for my taste.:snorky:

PS @M looks like we are the only two on here that watch these programmes on the box.I expect the rest of them are busy posting on here

Have only glimpsed at the thread as want to avoid spoilers. I watched the first one of these which looked like it might be decent and got the rest on record and saving for a Dickensianfest.

... Yes, James Norton I think his name is... but, he also played a vicar in a post war detective story alongside Robson Green. It was in that (Grantchester) that I realised what a great actor his is: very believable whether playing an angry man (Happy Valley) or something completely different e.g. a vicar! He's going to be one to watch because he makes for compelling viewing ;) Having said that, I've yet to have my W&Pfest so can't comment on how he portrays his character in that production.

Welcome to the thread GG

                  Hi "M ",
This is the first series of Jericho and it was purposely wrote /filmed with the accent on " western " so as to reflect the life that was lived by the navvies etc in that era.

I'm also watching " Shetland" , " Silent Witness " and " Death in paradise" at the moment.

Glad to hear that "Happy Valley " and " Grantchester " are both coming back on.

I'm enjoying Jericho too. I've got last Thursdays episode lined up to watch over this weekend. I'm also recording W&P so I can watch all of it in one go. I also decided to record the new Sky1 series Lucky Man starring James Nesbit. I'm not sure if it will be my cup of tea but there's always the delete button if it's not.

Superb! Very well crafted drama, I thought. And the ending, while in keeping with the stories, was still well worth watching. Well done all on Dickensian; a great piece of escapism
And now Happy Valley is back and he's had a close shave with a razor, I keep seeing ... Dermot O'Leary!! :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

And don't forget he's the vicar in Grantchester, which is starting again next week.
PS his name is James Norton.

Well what can I say only that Dickensian is one of the best productions I have watched, apart from War and Peace that is:snorky: Found the individual plots well thought out,all those different books(we didn't do Dickens at school:sad:) and only really knew about Oliver Twist from the film Oliver that I saw in the 70's :snork:

We are wondering if there will be another series because Mr Bucket has a new case to solve and I want to know what has happened to the baby now that Jagger's as got his mits on it and wonder what will happen to that locket. Also would like to know if Arthur did jump off of the top of that building:snorky:

Happy Valley also brilliant and :wow: loved the fight between the copper and his blackmailing lover and the way he smacked her one:yes: (I am not usually into violence but she was a cow:snork:)

Haven't been watching Grantchester but have seen a preview of it so might give it a go if there is nothing else on the box, although I think there is a new costume drama they are advertising at the moment going to come on soon:smile:
