Lovely scent from the wild garlic. The leaves can apparently be used in cooking, and it makes a fine display if only for a short time

I had been harvesting leaves on my walks for cooking with (not realising there was a small patch of it at the very bottom of my garden  I've now transplanted that to a tub so I can keep an eye on it)

I've been trying to kill this stuff off for years - I like the look of it but it stinks, spreads like mad and it's an absolute nightmare to get rid of :gaah:

Sorry, that sounded really "bah humbug" :snork:

LOL ..... it grows in my woodland where it is perfectly acceptable. I can imagine it being a pain in the a** anywhere else :)

I don't mind the smell until it's been cut and then it's way to strong! The island is covered in it!

              Hello,

Sorry to hijack this older thread, but I thought it might be better to revive than to start new :)

Anyway, my sister brought me a wild garlic bulb for my garden, which has been living in a pot so far (and I hope it's still alive ). I would like to plant it into a shady part of our allotment but I am unsure because from what I have learned wild garlic spreads like wild fire. I have an old bath tub that someone left in our allotment.

Do you think it might be a good idea to use this old tub to plant wild garlic, so it doesn't spread as much?

Definitely Mrs. Tea. You will be forever pulling it out like mint otherwise.:)

                Hello Sheal,

Thanks for the advice. I will use the bathtub then. I remember planting mint in my tiny herb garden when I lived in my former house. The mint ended up everywhere! Never again ;) - well at least not without proper boundaries.

                Thanks again! :)

I'm not sure whether wild garlic self seeds, if it does you might find yourself in trouble with your fellow allotmenteers. :)

It self seeds like Mrs Self Seeder, from Self Seed Street, Selfseedtown, Selfseedshire. SS1 99SS.

So it's a self seeder.. ooooh.. :thud:

Sheal, I only have one allotment neighbour, and we were actually talking about wild garlic last year. She said she'd love some in her garden, so I don't want to hear complains if she gets some hahaha :snorky::whistle:

Joolz, I'll have some of your woodruff :)

I don't know :rolleyespink: ... not been here two minutes and on the scrounge already :heehee:

@MrsTea have a good think about what you need/want/would like and maybe put a post in the Wants List forum. Likewise, if you have anything you could swap or give away to another GC'er, you could post it in the Swaps/Freebies forum. That way, snippets like the above wish for woodruff won't get lost amongst other posts :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Oh you caught me ... I thought it was such a subtle request  .

No seriously, I wasn't being serious, but didn't bring it across, sorry! :love30:
I love woodruff, but I wouldn't have it, for spreading reasons.

But I will have a look at the Wants List and the Swaps/Freebies, maybe I have something that other people want! :) - thanks for the links!
