I got an Endoscopy 2 weeks ago,I had been waiting for about 6 weeks to have this small operation, and it was the longest 6 weeks in my life.
I tend to panic if anything lodges in my throat so I was not looking forward to the tube/camera being put down my throat.
The Nurses and the Doctor calmed me down a bit when they informed me I had 2 choices prior to the operation I could have the throat spray or an injected sedative.
Being such a brave man, I went for the sedative.
I got the injection, told to lay on my side with my arms through the bedside safety grid

The next thing I knew was 2 Nurses talking to me saying,"You did great, Very Good".
I said, "How, What Did I Do ?".
The Endoscopy was over, I never seen or Felt A Thing.
I was Ecstatic , it was over after 6 weeks of worry.

I am writing this to Allay Fears of anyone who requires or may require in the future this small operation.
It was no problem whatsoever and over in a short time. I wasn't groggy or staggering after the Endoscopy,no problems.
On the way home I stopped for a Big Fish Supper carry out because I had to fast for at least 6 hours before appointment, that was the worst part, the fasting.

The end result, All is clear, I got the results Yesterday. Music.

I had it done years ago, and I was worried too. I remember them putting some mouth guard thingy in my mouth to keep it open, and that is all I recall. I woke up with everyone around me saying their throats were sore, and mine was absolutely fine.
I had it done in 2 places, but I asked them to do the throat one first .
Glad you are ok :blue thumb:.

I had one. I opted not to be sedated. I was fully alert throughout. I can't say it was pleasant, but it wasn't so bad.

The worst bit was when they'd finished. They'd told me in advance that they'd need to inflate my stomach with air so they could get a good look at the stretched out lining. This combined with the sensation of the things being pulled out of my throat made me feel like I was going to puke.

It was quite funny. Camera now out, I told the team I was going to puke. "you're not" they said, "there's nothing in there to be puked out". I insisted I was, they insisted I wasn't. They handed me a sick bowl just to put me at ease, as they could clearly tell I felt embarrassed at the prospect of puking all over the floor. All the sensations of the puking mechanism began. And then, remember they'd inflated my stomach? Well, as I opened my mouth, convinced a massive puke was going to burst forth in a Technicolor explosion, a massive burp came out instead. And kept coming. I did one single unbroken burp, loud, full of bass, and lasting maybe 5 seconds. I literally felt my stomach deflating as the belch rumbled forth. And that was it, no more nausea. I felt fine.

I sympathise with you. :grphg: I'm extremely nervous of any intrusive procedure :hate-shocked: and for me, anything is intrusive!

I hope they used a gastroscope and not an endoscope in the procedure. You never know where the latter has been...:lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Endoscope or gastroscope is better than a gastropod! :yikes:

I seem to recall that our @Zigs once had a gastropod down his throat after it hid on his beer can or something. Unless I misremembered that.

I had a camera down the throat and it's not too bad, the nurses have seen it all and are very kind and good.
I had one that went up my nose and into my lung, now that was unpleasant when compared.
Also had one other end and I felt invaded.
