Pesticides

The recent tip to use Jeyes Fluid to clean out my greenhouse prompted me to have a look at the RHS guidelines/information on allowed products... and in case it's useful to anyone else here are a couple of links.

Interestingly Jeyes Fluid is allowed as a disinfectant but not as a pesticide :confused:

Personally I avoid chemicals .. partly as I have animals (dog and cat) and also because I like to grow food and don't want to mutate :D -

So ... any tips on non-chemical alternatives would be welcomed

 

Good old soap and water - and a brush - hose it down afterwards, and then leave everything open til it drys. Then close everything and let the temperature soar for a week or so.

I use my greenhouse in the winter for plants - not the summer as its south facing. Heat seems to work for me after a clean out.

Following on from Frans elbow grease and to enable you all year round use of your greenhouse
two non chemical alternatives you could use are Garlic juice extracts and Neem oil.
A simple test to see that no toxic fumes remain, grow some Cress. If it grows it is safe, if after germination it wilts toxic fumes remain.
