Rhubarb

    Just wondering if I were to buy these roots could I expect to harvest this year ?

    I would have to use a container so I assume I would need a reasonable size one

    The answer is no!

    About three years for a reasonable crop even from a good sized clump, then it upwards and onwards!

    Makka-Bakka's right, Captain Hastings. It's not generally advised to pick a crop of rhubarb on it's first season.
    Depending on it's progress you might get away with a small picking on the 2nd year. I divided my rhubarb of long standing last November into 5 parts. But even though the actual plant has been with me for over 25 years I cannot crop it for at least 2 years after dividing it. It just means you'll enjoy it more when it does mature!!
