Rosa's ISP

Hi everyone.
Had a message from Rosa this lunchtime and she asked me to let you all know that Tiscali had disconnected their service this morning,and she was just waiting for the stuff to come from BT,so that she can get reconnected.
She says she will be on here as soon as everything is working ok with BT.

To all Rosa has phoned me and she will not be back on here till wednesday thursday at the latest, she would also like to know how to get the internet on her lap top without her computer, is it possible, i thought i was cos how do people use theres all over the place on planes etc no computer in the sky is there, if we can get her connected via lap top she will be back today

 

Sunrise, not sure what you meant by Rosa trying to get on the internet without her computer. Do you mean without her router or BT Internet connection?

People can use their laptops when they are away from home if the location they are in has a WI-FI connection. This is like a public wireless connection to the internet. They use a wireless card in their laptops to make the connection. Any wireless card will do. You just need to know where the "WI-FI hot-spots", as they are called, are located. Town centres, trains, planes and even caravan and camping sites can have them.

For Rosa to connect to the internet at home without her Broadband she will need an ordinary dial-up connection through the phone-line. Just as in the good old days before Broadband!!

If Rosa has got her BT Router and it is connected to her phone line she should be able to connect the laptop using one of the cables supplied. If it is anything like our BT Internet router there should be a yellow Ethernet cable and a blue USB cable. Only use one of the cables not both (The laptop probably has one Ethernet network socket but two or more USB sockets).

She will need to install the software supplied with the router to get the connection up and running.

In order to be able to use her laptop anywhere in the house she must have a wireless router not the standard modem router, which only uses cable connections. She will need a wireless card for the laptop to do this and a wireless adator for the PC if it is not close to the router.

We have a BT wireless router, a Belkin wireless card in the laptop and a BT USB wireless adaptor in the desktop PC. All these items are in different rooms. This allows us to get the best wireless coverage throughout the house.

If she has problems and has to reinstall she must always start with a cable connection and then progress onto wireless. She must follow the installation instructions carefully as I found they can go wrong without you realising it and you find you cannot connect to the internet.

Thanks Mr Kandy I will let her know, she has her router but no internet conection as yet on her computer, never thought of going through her existing phone line for dial up connection, I will pass this all on to her and see if she can do something with it,

Ok.Sunrise.Tell her to give us a ring if she still has problems,but only as long as it doesn't cause touble with her husband ahile he is there.

I see you have changed your Avatar.It will be starange now calling you sunrise.You should have kept the avatar and just called yourself sunshine like andy e called you

Sunrise,I am not sure,but I think the user name that you register with cannot be changed,but your display name can be,so click onto your profile,click edit profile, then scroll down to where it says display name and then change it to what you want to be called.

 

Kandy just tried that and someone else on here is using that name, cant say i have seen them myself though so will have to stick with sunrise.

 

Ok Sunrise.I have just had to run out to get my washing in as it is black here and now it has started raining.You could always change the spelling slightly or add a "P" after putting a gap after....so it looks like Sunrise p as your name on your signature is Patricia

I have changed my name now it is sunshine P instead of sunrise do you think i should go back to the old avitar?

 

The other one is called sunshine01,but they haven't posted since last year.
