What with all the lovely pictures, i'm getting quite excited about my roses. All the new ones except Guinee have buds on. The Rhapsody in Blue which I bought I gave to my daughter, and it has buds too. I replaced it with a very healthy specimen for £2.45 from here:

about 6 weeks ago . Buff Beauty is covered in buds, with Ferdinand Pichard not far behind. Ash Wednesday and Souvenir de Malmaison have smaller buds.
My free rose Bonica is supposed to be a ground cover rose but has one large shoot aiming for the sky- again covered with buds, Rosa helenae is not doing quite so well, only one bud, but Pauls' Himalayan musk is flourishing [IMG]
The only one actually out is Compassion, which is really taking off up the wall behind the fig.
I shall have to get the new camera out and find out how it works

Look forward to pics, Liz! I have buds on 2 of the 3 that John gave me - Simply the Best has one that is just threatening to open and Fragrant Cloud has managed a flurry of new growth and buds! Camera at the ready! :D

Hi Liz, you surprise me when you say Ferdinand P is not far behind, I'm only one county south of you (say 70 miles S of Swindon) yet mine has been out for 2 or 3 weeks, my first roses in bloom were during the week April 14-21 when we were on holiday, Calypso and Ard's Rover.
Sarah, we saw a White climber in bloom at Clovelly court that week so would have thought you would have blooms by now.
Ones that have flowered so far include Calypso, Ard's Rover, Corvedale, Pat Austin, Graham thomas, Fred Loads, Princes Elizabeth, Oranges and Lemons, Mme Alfred Carri©re, Rhapsody in blue, and a few others I have no name for as yet.
Iceberg opened yesterday, but then it did continue blooming until first week in February. Complicata has been showing colour for a couple of days, but still not open.
Maybe being about a mile and a half from the sea keeps it milder here, but it does seem a bigger difference than I would expect.
If the rain holds off I will have to get out dead heading.
    Cheers MIKE

I agree. I think one of the reasons is that Warminster is several hundred feet above sea level. Also the ones mentioned were only planted last Spring.
