Welcome, P-C Medic. I'm sure your expertise will be well utilised and there will be many grateful users out there.

I have a problem which still goes unresolved, albeit several people have given advice, which have included running speed tests, etc. I find moving around the site exceptionally slow, specifically opening questions, starting new topics, posting, closing after posting and a few others. I don't have any problems, say, closing after reading questions as I just use Back on my Browser.

I don't have this problem on any other forum or any other program. Any thoughts?

    Are your cookies enabled ?

silly question, as I would imagine they are, but when cookies are NOT enabled, your computer is downloading each page you visit every time (ie. not storing any information).

This is my take on 'cookies' ...... correct me if I am wrong, John [IMG]

Hi, Nathan! One of the first things t'other half did when we encountered speed problems was to put GC into the trusted zone in IE5.5 so that all cookies would be accepted, to no avail.  :( and frustrated!

Hi, Nathan and John. I am running on 5.5 Windows ME but forget my PC. T'other half is running IE 6.0 SP1 on Windows ME and has exactly the same problems as I do. but again, ONLY with GC and other UBB forums! :( The traceroute that he has run starts in London, not here in Portugal, and typically is between 12 and 16 hops with a latency of about 130ms. As this is one-way traffic only and does not include the Portugal to London hop(s) and does not take into account large packet sizes, t'other half thinks that upgrading my PC will not make much of a difference. However, he has said he will migrate me to Iceland (no, no, no!) IE 6.0land. Not holding out much hope ... I wait in hope ... :D

LOL - I did my nut in trying to get speed up, did all the virus worm checks, all the cookies removed, all the "valleting" tools on the go. Had my computer geek from Norway do his job and still snail pace.

Now got umm 528 ram and all quick as a flash, I think it cos me £50
