    Hi

Last Saturday I trying to do some clearance on the allotment when I disturbed a wasp nest. I was stung 22 times. Obviously it was very frightening and I was sore and itchy for a few days.

Then all the stings settled down, until yesterday, that is. Now they have all flared up, more itchy than ever and red rashes have appeared around each bite.

Have any of you experienced this? How do you treat your stings?

      Hi Yvonne

Thats nasty and could of been life threatening if me I would of :runforhills:, are you sure it was a wasps nest as most should be all dead by now but saying that look how warm its been and still is.

Antihistamines everyday until its all sorted. If they get infected go to the doctor straightaway
can I ask where abouts did you get stung .

Definitely wasps, one stung me 3 times, bees can't do that can they? I did go to A&E in case I had an allergic reaction which thankfully I didn't. I have been taking anti-histamines but they aren't helping with the itching at all.

You could try ringing the NHS 111 service for some advice.

poor you , Yvonne I do understand one of my lot stung me on the face couple of weeks ago cor did that hurt big time and still looks red , and so glad you went and checked yourself out at the hospital as with that amount of stings who knows as normally you would know in 10 or 15 minutes antipathetic shock feeling sick and whoosy , yes you are right honey bees can only sting the once as they have a barb that stick in and pulls the sting out of the body of the bee as they pull away but wasps dont and can and will sting multiple times.
if still itchey I would go the doctors and get antibiotics if starting to go red and sore , or try a different brand of anti histamines or a cream will help http://www.benadryl.ca/topical-relief-medicine/itch-cream

Thanks Spruce, I'll try that. I'm just waiting for 111 to call me back, 1 hour 30 minutes so far!

111 are useless! "so you have been itching for 2 weeks then?" "no" I didn't say that at all! Thry want me to go back to A&E, I think that's too drastic, will try the cream first.

I don't wish to sound dramatic, but I'm with 111 on this. A few years ago now, my dad scratched himself on a thorn. He thought it was no different to all the countless thousands of previous times he'd scratched himself on a thorn, until he started itching all over several hours later. My step mother phoned the doctor's. My dad was taken to hospital in an ambulance (he was given strict instructions not to attempt to drive himself). I can't remember what they did, but he was easily and quickly treated with medication of some sort and released within hours, but in his specific case, they said if he hadn't received prompt medical treatment he could have became very seriously poorly indeed, as he was having a massive allergic reaction. Of course my dad's case is different to your case. I just threw it in there to show how sometimes it is best to listen to 111. What's the worst that can happen? You lose a few hours of your life but find out all is fine. Or you get the problem identified and rectified.

                          Poor you Yvonne, sounds horrific!
We use Antistan cream to help clear up the after effect of bites and find bathing with a couple of cups of Epsom salts added to the water soothes itchy skin.
                          Hope you soon recover!

I wouldn't follow this bit though,

The venom is alkaline, so putting another alkali on top wouldn't help :yikes:

It would help for a Bee sting though.
