My friend bought this clem off a 'reduced' table. It had no label and wasn't in flower at the time. Seems to have settled in nicely but any ideas what it is? Flowers are very rich and velvety.

There are so many it is difficult, but if you look on Taylors' site and click on the main menu on the left, there is a search option 'colour'. They have one similar one called Vivienne Beth Currie.

Hi frogesque, it is a difficult one but I would say it was definitely a Clematis viticella and possibly this one which I have, although there are quite a few similar ones.

Thanks for the hints and suggestions.
BM - your 'Royal Velours' only has four petals so I think I'll have to rule that out. Liz's 'Vivienne Beth Currie' has the six petals and seems to be the right colour. I'll have to see how it performs and if it flowers all summer. It does look superb though - not bad for £2 :D

Hi Frogesque, I agree about BM, I think it is Ville De Lyon, not a very good pic of it on Liz's site but take a look at the one Palustris mentioned.

Eagle eyes suedobie, I think Ville De Lyon is a contender. Beth Currie is beautiful but perhaps the petals a little pointy.
