    sorry I can't tell from that do you have any leaf shots? what did the leaves look like if not?

        Agree with Zig, not sure it's an Elm. Picture of a leaf would be useful, although if the leaves are out of reach a close up of the bark might give us a few pointers.
        Anything else lying on the ground under the tree; twigs, seeds or nuts of any kind might help us give you a positive ID. :)

          Shape & bark make me think of Plane tree, but that would be unusual away from a park.

          I'm in agreement with him here, the general shape and bark does have the appearance of Plane.

            :D No, straight up H,

            Plane tree is widely planted along city streets as it sheds its bark so it can breath and was one of the few trees that could survive in the terrrible smogs of the middle of the last century.

            It has balls of seeds hanging off it, you'd know it if you saw it:D

              whatever species it is get a good picture of the bottom of the trunk as it looks like it has some quite serious bark damage:scratch:

                Yea I noticed that aesculus :mad: ...kids I think! it will be better looked after now It's under new ownership though.
