acer id

    have been given a acer 10 inches high any idea of correct id? thanks in advance gary

    Are you sure it`s an Acer? The nearest one I can find is A.saccharum, but got my doubts.:old:

    :scratch: Hi gerkin, there are 100s of different Acers. Not one of my strong points.. Our resident tree guy Harmony Arb may be on later, or somebody else may know.. :thumb:

    :scratch: I know what you mean about the leaves Dai, they are very fancy edged for an acer.. Makes me think of a delphinium or the like by the leaf shape, not a tree...

    :thumb: Yes even that Dai now you mention it & I agree it certainly doesn't look very Acer like the more i look at it..!!...

    It is an acer. I have one in my garden. They grow to very large shrubs or can be trained into small trees. The one I have was a slip taken from palmatum dissectum under the graft. I can only assume this is used as rootstock. It's a very nice shrub. very feathery and has good autumn colour. Tough as old boots too.

    yes this is a woody shrub and has been grafted on to the rootstock i have other acers that are simmilar but the leafs are a lot finner

    How dare you call me a cheat. I didn't even click the link nor can I see it written on the pic. I went to Hilliers where I first saw the shrub before ordering. I would expect an apology for that. Just because you didn't know doesn't mean everyone else doesn't.
