Potatoes / Runner Beans / Onions / Broad Beans but not many / Beetroot / Cabbage once again not many / Carrots and a few other things. (ps its been hard going 5/6 hours every day since March 1st but now things are growing its very rewardindg would say tol anyone get a allotment)

Was given 6x4 greenhouse from a lady it cost me a bottle of vodka it will save me filling mine up at home.

    Hi
The weather must be mild where you live, my potatoes are not as tall as yours and were planted mid March.

Also your soil must be a good tilth, ours here is very heavy Severn clay, porridge in the winter, cannon balls in the summer after a few days sunshine!

But we still grow lots of veggies; in spite of the soil, if not the earliest in the country!

I had recycled compost from Swansea Council it is free so we had 15 ton between five of us because you have to pay delivery ie £50 the first load we had in March then we had another 15 ton in May price of delivery went up to £60 but the shared cost was only £12 each for three ton each and it is great stuff needed this to mix with the earth and to raise the beds my potatoes were planted mid March.

    Hello Golfer,

They still look impressive, I have just checked, I planted one row of Charlotte on 27th March and they are about 6 inches tall, that was yesterday. They were planted in soil heavily manured with horse muck.

Have been sitting on here most of the afternoon as it is tipping it down here most of the day, and unable to stick my nose outside the door, this being my day off.

Though all was not lost, a nurserywoman phoned to say she had posted some Hostas that I had ordered and was looking for payment, I also picked just now from the greenhouse, the first lot of dwarf French beans for my dinner tonight!

To take over that patch, a budding gardener has to have the heart of a lion and be an eternal optimist, but it's great fun in the end.
