Yes I agree, I did that, I have not many sunflower seedheads now because the greedy feathery piggys raided the porch in october when I was drying said sunflower heads. The came all the way into the porch (despitecats and housekeeping activities) and made a almighty mess of my carefully arranged, drying, sunflower heads. Bless them.

I bought mixed seed packages, for my hut,and they carefully picked out the sunflower seeds and left the rest (heaps of it). Now I just buy sunflower seeds, not worth bothering with the other stuff :(

Hi , lollipop I always thought those woven wicker type bird houses where only used by birds for roosting in on cold nights , have you ever had any birds nesting in them before ? Also my own garden is only a year old as I live in a new build. I have no mature shrubs or climbers yet . Does anyone have a nest box in an open site that has been used and would it be worth me putting a box up.

Hi nathan7, It would be nice if it was permanent resident. I hope to have Blue Tits again this year in both of these boxes and maybe a Blackie or Robin in the open fronted one.

Hi G-M...is that a feeding table in the last pic? I ask because I positioned a box near my feeder in my Cherry tree and no Tits nested in it...A friend suggested it be moved saying feeding birds may be disturbing any thinking of using it and after doing so, it was used straight away.

Good luck with the Blue tits nesting again G.Man. Have you ever had any success with open fronted box or is it new ? I would just be a little concerned of cats climbing onto the shed roof and having a swipe inside the box.

    Paladin,
Where did you think you saw a feeding table my friend? the last pic is the original nest box I built last year and had the blue tits in.
    Bally,
It's brand new and I never even thought about cats on the roof, good point to raise. Might build some sort of barrier. Will have to think about that one
